St. Louis is looking at a mostly sunny Thursday afternoon with a high near 84°F and breezy southerly winds gusting up to 26 mph—perfect conditions to get outside before a significant weather system moves in tonight.

This is your window. If you’re thinking about heading to the Gateway Arch grounds, Forest Park, or any of the city’s outdoor spaces, this afternoon is the time to go. The breeze will keep things comfortable, and skies will stay mostly clear through early evening. Just be mindful of that wind if you’re planning any activities near the riverfront or open areas—a pop-up canopy tent with weights would be smart if you’re setting up for tailgating or outdoor gatherings.

The overnight story is very different. Starting around 1 AM CT Friday and continuing through the morning, an organized line of thunderstorms will move through the metro. The National Weather Service is confident (80–90% probability) in widespread showers and storms between late Thursday night and early Friday morning. While severe weather potential is low overall, isolated damaging wind gusts are possible as the system arrives. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Marginal Risk for excessive rainfall, with some areas potentially seeing rates up to 2.5 inches per hour, though progressive storm motion should limit localized flooding concerns.

Friday will stay unsettled, with showers and thunderstorms likely before 8 AM, then scattered chances through the afternoon as a high of 76°F. By Friday night, things improve—clearing skies and cooler air moving in with lows around 53°F.

For this weekend: Saturday shapes up much nicer with partial clearing and highs in the low 60s. Sunday and Monday will see another round of showers and thunderstorms, so plan indoor activities or be flexible with outdoor plans.

Sports & Events: The St. Louis Cardinals vs Seattle Mariners game Friday, April 24 at Busch Stadium will be indoors, so weather won’t impact your experience—grab Official team gear on Fanatics to show your support. If you’re heading to St. Louis City SC vs. San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, April 25 at Energizer Park, expect much better conditions with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60s. Find tickets on StubHub if you need them.

For comedy and live music, the Michelle Buteau: The Surviving And Thriving Tour at The Pageant on Saturday, April 25 is an indoor venue, so weather is zero concern—Get tickets on SeatGeek for a fun night out.

Grilling Time: This afternoon is prime grilling weather before the rain arrives. Fire up burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob while you’ve got the sunshine and breeze. Grab an instant-read meat thermometer and a grill brush and scraper set to make sure everything comes out perfect. If you need ingredients, you can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Stay weather-aware tonight and Friday morning—keep your phone charged and have a way to receive alerts as storms move through. By Saturday, we’ll be on the back side of this system with much quieter conditions returning.
