San Antonio is looking at mostly cloudy skies and a high near 85°F this afternoon—a pleasant spring day before the heat really cranks up this weekend.
Today through Friday, we’re in a dry and warming pattern that’s ideal for outdoor activities. This afternoon, expect mostly cloudy conditions with south-southeast winds around 10 mph. It’s the kind of day where the River Walk stays comfortable, and the military bases around Lackland and Fort Sam shouldn’t see any weather disruptions. Overnight, temperatures only dip to around 71°F with similar cloud cover—still mostly cloudy and mild.
Friday’s Slight Storm Chance
Friday brings a slight change in the pattern. Highs climb to the upper 80s with increased moisture, pushing heat index values into the low to mid-90s. There’s a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after 1 PM CT as the afternoon cap erodes. The National Weather Service notes that if storms do pop, areas along and east of the I-35 Corridor and the Coastal Plains could see strong activity. Most of the day should stay dry, though, so outdoor plans are still viable—just keep an eye on the sky after lunch.
This Weekend: Heat Arrives
Saturday and Sunday are where things get serious. Highs will soar into the low 90s with heat index values near or exceeding 100°F. It’s hot and humid—classic South Texas summer weather arriving early. If you’re planning to visit the Alamo, catch a Spurs playoff game at Frost Bank Center, or enjoy the Hill Country, go early in the morning. The Spurs Rd 1 Game 5 vs. the Trail Blazers on April 28th will be indoors at Frost Bank Center, so you’ll have full air conditioning—grab Get tickets on SeatGeek and consider picking up Official team gear on Fanatics to show your support.
Perfect Days for Outdoor Activities
Today and Friday morning are golden for golf. Grab a pair of golf shorts men and get out to one of San Antonio’s courses before the afternoon heat builds. The light winds and mostly cloudy cover mean you won’t be squinting into the sun all day. Fishing is also excellent on the Colorado River and local lakes—the calm winds and mild temperatures are ideal for early morning or evening trips.
Tonight is perfect grilling weather. Fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. An instant-read meat thermometer and grill brush and scraper set will help you nail the cook. If you need ingredients, you can order groceries on Amazon Fresh and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Looking Ahead
Enjoy the pleasant weather while it lasts. By Saturday, the heat and humidity return in earnest, and we’ll stay hot through next week. Stay hydrated, plan outdoor activities for early morning, and keep an eye on the forecast as we head into late April—this is the time of year when afternoon thunderstorms can develop quickly across South Central Texas.
