San Antonio is in for a hot, mostly sunny Saturday with a high near 97°F and a heat index climbing as high as 104°F, so the National Weather Service says the smart move is to push outdoor plans to the early morning or evening and drink plenty of water if you’re out under that midday sun.

Today’s Setup

A subtropical ridge parked over the Four Corners is keeping South-Central Texas locked into a hot, stagnant, mostly dry pattern, according to the NWS Austin/San Antonio forecast office. Rain chances sit at just 8% today, and forecasters note only isolated afternoon storms are possible, mainly if activity from the Coastal Plains manages to push inland toward the I-35 corridor. Don’t count on it cooling things off around the River Walk or Alamo Heights — most neighborhoods stay dry.

Best Window To Be Outside

With the overnight low only dropping to 76°F, mornings are your best bet for comfort. Get golf rounds in early at a local course before 10 AM CT, when temperatures are still climbing rather than parked in the mid-90s — a golf hat visor and a golf cooler bag insulated make a big difference once the heat index sets in. Anglers working the Hill Country lakes or San Antonio River should also plan for a sunrise start; catfish bait dip worms and a stocked tackle box go a lot further in the cool part of the day.

Heat Risk

Forecasters say a few spots in the Coastal Plains could briefly touch Heat Advisory criteria for a couple of hours, though coverage isn’t expected to be widespread enough to trigger an actual advisory for San Antonio proper. Still, treat today like advisory-level heat: limit strenuous outdoor work near midday, check on elderly neighbors, and never leave kids or pets in the car — even briefly.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light, breathable clothing and constant hydration are non-negotiable. Keep a Stanley quencher tumbler full of ice water whether you’re at Fort Sam Houston, Lackland, or just mowing the lawn in the early morning before the heat builds.

Tonight In The City

Hamilton is on stage tonight at the Majestic Theatre San Antonio — tickets on SeatGeek if you’re heading downtown, and it’s an easy way to dodge the heat in air conditioning. On Sunday, Don Toliver’s Octane World Tour rolls through Moody Center up in Austin; grab a Don Toliver t-shirt before you go. Later this month, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey brings The Greatest Show On Earth to the Alamodome on August 14.

Dinner Tonight

This is prime grilling weather — fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob once the sun starts easing off in the evening. An instant-read meat thermometer and a grill brush and scraper set will keep things quick and mess-free. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Sunday looks like a repeat of today — sunny, near 97°F, with heat index values as high as 106°F and only an 8% rain chance. The NWS says Monday will stay very similar, with the ridge shifting slowly southeast and highs holding hot and near normal through the week.
