San Antonio is under a Heat Advisory today, Thursday, with sunny skies and a high near 101°F that will feel like 107°F thanks to the humidity — the safe move is pushing outdoor plans to the morning or evening and treating the River Walk shade like precious real estate.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service has the Heat Advisory in effect for all of South-Central Texas through 8 PM tonight, with heat index values regionally running as high as 113°F this afternoon. Winds stay light out of the north-northeast at 5 to 10 mph with gusts to 25 mph, so there’s no real relief in the breeze. Overnight lows only drop to around 80°F, with a 29% chance of showers developing after 10 PM as Tropical Storm Bertha’s circulation edges toward the middle-to-upper Texas coast.
Best Window To Be Outside
Early morning, before 9 AM, is your window before heat index values climb into triple digits. If you’re headed out near Lackland or Fort Sam Houston for PT or errands, get it done at sunrise. Fishing conditions look decent early too — cast a line before the afternoon heat sets in, and a fishing sun shirt UPF 50 is worth having on hand. Golfers should book early tee times as well; a golf divot repair tool is a small thing to toss in the bag before you head out.
Rain, Wind, And Bertha’s Track
Bertha remains sheared, keeping most of its rain well south of its circulation, but forecasters note scattered tropical downpours and a storm or two could favor areas along and south of the I-10/US 90 corridor tonight into Friday, with gusts up to 30 mph possible. Separately, the Nueces River continues major to moderate flooding at and below Asherton through the rest of the week — avoid low-water crossings in that area if you’re heading southwest of the city.
What To Wear Or Bring
Light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, and water are non-negotiable today. If you’re setting up a backyard hang instead of braving the heat, an outdoor string lights setup and a patio furniture set make evening cooldown time on the patio much more livable, and a corn hole game set keeps the kids busy in the shade.
Shows And Events This Week
AC/DC brings the Power Up Tour to the Alamodome on Friday, July 24 — tickets on StubHub if you’re going, and grab official team gear on Fanatics-style concert merch beforehand. Hot Wheels Monster Trucks Live Glow-N-Fire roars into Frost Bank Center on Saturday, July 25 — tickets on SeatGeek for that one. And the Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire show lands at Frost Bank Center July 28, with Hamilton opening the same night at the Majestic Theatre.
Tonight’s Dinner
With highs like these, it’s perfect grilling weather — burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob cook up fast while you stay near the shade. An instant-read meat thermometer and a grill brush and scraper set make cleanup and doneness a lot less guesswork. If you want brisket flavor without the all-day smoke, check out our tri-tip smoking guide. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Friday backs off slightly to a high near 95°F with just a slight chance of early showers, still muggy with heat index near 101°F. Cooling off near a pool helps — a 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge is on sale right now if you want to beat the heat this weekend.
