Minneapolis–St. Paul is waking up to mostly clear skies and a chilly 31°F this morning, but don’t let that fool you—today will warm to around 62°F with mostly sunny conditions and breezy south winds of 5 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 30 mph.

Here’s the important part: The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for central through southwestern Minnesota today due to critical fire weather conditions. With humidity levels dropping to just 20–25 percent combined with those gusty south winds, fire danger will be dangerously high across much of the region. If you’re planning any outdoor burning—whether it’s a backyard fire pit in Edina, a brush pile cleanup in St. Louis Park, or a bonfire near the Chain of Lakes—please postpone it. This is not a day to take chances with fire.

For those heading to outdoor activities around the Twin Cities, it’ll be a pleasant day otherwise. Golfers at Hazeltine or Wayzata Country Club will enjoy mostly sunny skies, though you’ll want a light jacket for the morning and early afternoon. Parks like Minnehaha Falls and the Stone Arch Bridge area will be nice for a walk, but stay alert for dry grass and leaves—one spark could spread quickly today.

Tonight, temperatures will dip to around 45°F with partly cloudy skies. Winds will calm down after sunset, which is good news for fire safety. If you’re planning any evening activities downtown near the Skyway or heading to Target Center or U.S. Bank Stadium, bring a light layer—it’ll be pleasantly cool but not cold.

Tuesday is shaping up to be even nicer: sunny skies with highs near 72°F and calm north winds of just 0–5 mph. This is an excellent day for yard work, mowing (fire danger will be much lower), or outdoor dining. If you have tickets to the Wild’s playoff game at Grand Casino Arena on Wednesday or the Timberwolves matchup at Target Center on Thursday, Tuesday will be perfect for getting outside before the action heats up.

Before heading out, grab some touchscreen winter gloves for the chilly mornings—you’ll want them for that 31°F start. A fleece-lined beanie is also smart for early morning dog walks around the neighborhood.

With the breezy, dry conditions today, it’s the perfect evening for a warm, comforting meal indoors. Whip up a hearty pot roast or baked pasta to take advantage of your oven’s warmth, and finish with hot chocolate. Did you know you can order groceries on Amazon? Get everything you need for tonight’s dinner delivered straight to your door.

Looking ahead: Wednesday will be even warmer with highs in the low 80s—enjoy it while it lasts. Showers and thunderstorms return Thursday, followed by cooler, drier conditions for the weekend. Check the Twin Cities weather forecast for updates as we approach midweek.
