Minneapolis–St. Paul starts Tuesday with lingering showers and a few rumbles of thunder, but skies clear to partly sunny with a high near 76°F by afternoon — keep a packable rain jacket handy for the morning commute, then enjoy cooler, comfortable air the rest of the day.

Today’s Setup

A cold front is sliding through the Twin Cities early this morning, according to the National Weather Service Twin Cities/Chanhassen office. It produced a broken line of showers and isolated thunderstorms with wind gusts of 35-45 mph during the frontal passage. That activity is weakening as it moves east, but scattered showers can linger the first couple hours after sunrise, with a slight chance continuing near the MN/IA border into the afternoon. Winds turn northwest at 5 to 10 mph behind the front, and highs reach near 76°F. Tuesday night drops to a low around 58°F with patchy smoke possible before 7 PM CT.

Best Window To Be Outside

Once the morning showers clear, the rest of Tuesday and all of Wednesday are the pick of the week. Wednesday brings sunny skies and a high near 78°F with light west-southwest winds — great for a walk around Lake Harriet or a ride on the Grand Rounds. Hold off on mowing until this morning’s showers move out; calm, dry conditions Wednesday afternoon are your best bet for yard work.

Rain & Wind Risk

The Storm Prediction Center has no severe weather outlook posted for the Twin Cities today, but the gusty winds tied to this morning’s frontal passage mean loose patio furniture and umbrellas should be secured until winds ease by midday. If you’re out before the rain clears, a compact travel umbrella or waterproof hiking boots will help if trails near Minnehaha Falls are still soggy.

Games, Concerts & Weekend Plans

Vikings Training Camp continues Wednesday, Aug. 5 at the TCO Performance Center — Official team gear on Fanatics makes a good camp-day pickup. Also Wednesday, Noah Kahan brings The Great Divide Tour to Target Field; see our in-depth Noah Kahan tour weather coverage and grab tickets on SeatGeek or tickets on StubHub, plus a Noah Kahan t-shirt for the show. Looking ahead, the Minnesota Twins host the Baltimore Orioles at Target Field on Aug. 10.

Next Few Days & Tonight’s Dinner

Expect drier, sunnier weather Wednesday, then a warm-up begins Thursday as highs climb into the lower 80s and keep rising through the weekend, per the NWS — though weekend rain chances remain uncertain. With cool, damp air lingering tonight, it’s a good night for slow cooker chili or a hearty beef stew; a programmable slow cooker or enameled cast iron Dutch oven makes it easy. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door. And if weekend yard work is on your list once the sun returns, the EGO Power+ Battery Deal is trending on our site this week.
