Miami is starting Thursday under mostly sunny skies with a high near 87°F, but the National Weather Service is flagging a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 PM ET — so front-load your outdoor plans and have a backup ready by mid-afternoon. Keep an eye on your Miami weather forecast as storm timing can shift quickly in South Florida.
Today’s Setup
A decaying frontal boundary is stalling over the Florida Straits, and dry air aloft is keeping most convection in check. That said, sea breeze convergence can still fire up isolated storms across Southeast Florida this afternoon. The National Weather Service also notes that a surface low may develop along the east coast later today, which could spin up a quick, isolated strong storm. The main watch window is roughly 2–7 PM ET. Southwest winds around 9 mph keep it breezy without being oppressive. Any lingering activity should fade before 9 PM ET, giving way to mostly clear skies with a low near 79°F overnight.
Beach alert: The National Weather Service has flagged an elevated rip current risk at Palm Beach County beaches today. If you’re heading to the shore from Sunny Isles to Jupiter, swim near a lifeguard and know to escape a rip by swimming parallel to shore — not straight in.
Best Window To Be Outside
Morning through early afternoon is your golden window. Bayfront Park, the Brickell waterfront, and Coconut Grove are pleasant for a walk or run before 11 AM ET. Golfers, hold out for Friday — sunny with a high near 86°F and light southwest winds of 5 to 12 mph make it one of the better days of the week. Check out our guide to the best golf balls for high handicappers before your round.
Rain, Wind, or Heat Risk
No severe weather has been issued by the Storm Prediction Center for South Florida today, and the Weather Prediction Center puts the excessive rainfall risk below 5% — this is not a washout. Temperatures running above normal for mid-May mean the heat is the real story. Stay hydrated and limit prolonged midday sun exposure. The primary weather risk remains that isolated, quick-hitting afternoon storm between 2 and 7 PM ET.
Tonight: Pitbull at iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre
Pitbull - I’m Back with special guest Lil Jon plays the outdoor iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre tonight. With a 20% storm chance before 9 PM ET, pull up your radar app before heading out and arrive early to get settled before any cells roll through. Still need seats? Find tickets on StubHub before the show sells out.
Weekend Events: Inter Miami at Nu Stadium + Laura Pausini
Inter Miami CF takes on the Portland Timbers on Sunday, May 17 at Nu Stadium. The weekend pattern looks warm and mostly clear — excellent tailgating conditions in the parking lots off NW 14th Ave. Represent in an Inter Miami CF jersey or wrap an Inter Miami CF scarf around your shoulders for the evening kickoff. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need them.
Saturday night at Kaseya Center, Laura Pausini - YO CANTO WORLD TOUR (May 16) brings her global tour to downtown Miami. Arena AC runs cold, so a Laura Pausini hoodie keeps you comfortable while repping the show. Prefer something lighter? A Laura Pausini t-shirt works great for the walk in from the Biscayne Boulevard parking garages.
Dinner Tonight
Afternoon storms rolling through make this a natural slow cooker night. Load up a programmable slow cooker with beef stew or chili before you leave the house and come home to dinner ready — no effort required. Prefer the stovetop? An enameled cast iron Dutch oven turns a bag of vegetables and a cheap cut of beef into something genuinely impressive in under two hours. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Friday looks excellent — sunny, 86°F, and dry. The weekend brings above-normal warmth with low rain chances through Sunday, making it a strong stretch for beach time, the Inter Miami match at Nu Stadium, or the Laura Pausini show. NWS forecasters are watching that surface low as it tracks west-southwestward across the southern Florida Peninsula — it bears monitoring for any isolated storm potential Friday into the weekend. Stay current with your Miami weather forecast for the latest.
