Detroit is waking up to a slight chance of rain showers before noon today, then skies scatter to partly sunny with a high near 82°F — save outdoor plans for early afternoon onward, once National Weather Service forecasters expect a dry slot to clear things out fast.

Today’s Setup

NWS Detroit/Pontiac says the cold front sagging south of the state has moved slower than expected, but morning stratus and scattered showers should give way as a dry slot pushes through this afternoon. Surface dewpoints holding in the 60s keep just enough moisture around for a 20% shower chance before noon, then partly sunny skies build in. Wind stays breezy out of the NNW at 7 to 14 mph with gusts to 23 mph today, shifting north tonight as the low dips to 64°F under mostly clear skies.

Best Window To Be Outside

Headed to Belle Isle or the riverfront? Aim for after 1 or 2 PM ET, once the morning shower threat clears. Wednesday looks even better — sunny, 82°F, and dry all day, one of the better stretches this week for yard work, a bike ride, or an evening outside.

Tigers Game Day At Comerica Park

The Detroit Tigers host the Baltimore Orioles today and again Wednesday at Comerica Park. Gusty NNW wind (gusts to 23 mph) may rattle flags but shouldn’t threaten the tailgate — just weigh down anything loose. Grab a Detroit Tigers jersey or Detroit Tigers fitted cap before first pitch, and if you still need seats, you can Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub.

Rain, Wind, Or Storm Risk

No severe weather is in play locally — the Storm Prediction Center has no outlook out for Southeast Michigan, and the Weather Prediction Center’s moderate excessive rainfall risk today is centered on the Tri-State area of New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut, well away from Detroit. Locally it’s just a light morning shower and breezy wind; a packable rain jacket covers the early hours fine.

What To Wear Or Bring

Pack a compact travel umbrella for the morning commute, moisture wicking undershirts men for the humid start, and switch to men’s sport sandals once the sun wins out this afternoon.

Concerts This Week

Acrisure Amphitheater stays busy — 5 Seconds of Summer play Wednesday (see our 5 Seconds of Summer weather guide), and Chicago & Styx roll through Thursday (check the Chicago & Styx rain forecast). Lynyrd Skynyrd x Foreigner hits Pine Knob Music Theatre Friday — grab a Lynyrd Skynyrd t-shirt and Find tickets on StubHub before you go.

Dinner Idea

With that lingering morning damp, it’s a good night for slow cooker chili or beef stew. Pull out the programmable slow cooker or enameled cast iron Dutch oven and let it simmer while today’s showers clear out. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Drier, slightly cooler air holds through midweek — Wednesday sunny and 82°F, Thursday warming toward 85°F. Per the NWS Area Forecast Discussion, the next real rain and thunderstorm chance arrives Friday night into Saturday, so plan your outdoor gear days for this dry stretch while it lasts.
