Boston opens Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and a comfortable high near 82°F, making today the pick of the week to get outside — head to the Esplanade, tee off early, or grab a patio table in the North End before humidity and storm chances build in tomorrow.

Today’s Setup

High pressure is settling in with dry, clear conditions for the entire area by afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Winds stay light out of the northeast around 7 mph, and there’s no measurable rain chance. Some patchy fog may linger over the Cape and Islands early this morning but should mix out quickly. Tonight stays mostly clear with a low around 68 and a light south breeze.

Best Window To Be Outside

Late morning through afternoon is the sweet spot, with sea breezes possible along the East Coast keeping things pleasant. This is genuine golf weather — pack a golf hat visor and golf divot repair tool for a round at any of the area’s courses, or set up a golf practice net backyard if you’d rather stay local. It’s also a great evening for grilling on the patio.

Heat And Storm Risk Building

The National Weather Service Boston/Norton office says warmer, more humid air moves in Thursday and Friday as broad southwest flow takes over. Thursday’s high near 92°F comes with heat index values up to 99, and forecasters are watching a weak disturbance for scattered showers and storms later Thursday into Thursday night. Friday looks more active, with a 77% chance of showers and thunderstorms as a cold front pushes through a moist, unstable airmass — the NBM shows a 40-60% chance of instability. Good news: the weekend turns much drier and cooler as a fresh airmass settles in.

What To Wear Or Bring

Today, sunscreen and sunglasses are all you need. Thursday, hydrate often and plan strenuous outdoor plans for the morning before the heat index climbs. Friday, keep rain gear handy for the afternoon storm chance.
