Washington, DC is waking up to one of the nicest days of early summer — sunny skies, a high near 89°F, and noticeably lower humidity that makes today feel far more manageable than recent sticky days. If you’ve been putting off outdoor plans, stop waiting. Get outside. A light northwest wind around 6 mph will keep things comfortable from the National Mall to Rock Creek Park, and the National Weather Service notes dewpoints dropping into the upper 50s and low 60s. Enjoy it while it lasts — a serious storm threat returns Sunday.

Today’s Setup

The Washington, DC weather forecast delivers wall-to-wall sunshine through the day. Highs are running 5–8 degrees above average, but with that drier air in place it won’t feel oppressive. Overnight brings mostly clear skies and a comfortable low near 68°F with a light southwest wind of 1 to 6 mph — ideal sleeping-with-the-windows-open weather.

Best Window To Be Outside

All day today is yours. The Washington Nationals host the Seattle Mariners at Nationals Park this afternoon in near-perfect baseball weather. Tailgating conditions are excellent — grab a Washington Nationals jersey and a Washington Nationals fitted cap and head down to South Capitol Street. Need seats? Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub.

Over at RFK Campus, Vans Warped Tour DC takes over the grounds today — an outdoor festival that drew the perfect weather card. Slather on sunscreen and bring a hat.

For evening plans, the DNBNL show featuring Bou, Delta Heavy, Reaper, and Fox Stevenson hits Echostage tonight, and Ryan Bingham and The Texas Gentlemen bring their Still Gettin’ Away With It Tour to Lincoln Theatre. Both are indoors and a great way to cap a gorgeous day.

If you want to stretch the afternoon at home, a pool float lounger on the back deck is a very reasonable Saturday afternoon decision. And with that heat, talc free body powder is worth tossing in your bag before heading to any outdoor event.

Sunday Storm Risk — Take This Seriously

Sunday is a sharp contrast. The National Weather Service has maintained a Level 2 out of 5 (Slight Risk) for severe weather, and the Storm Prediction Center has increased wind damage probabilities to 30% — forecasters are watching for a potential upgrade to a Level 3 Enhanced Risk as models are refined. Southerly flow will push dewpoints near 70°F and precipitable water values near 2 inches ahead of an approaching cold front. Expect widespread thunderstorms developing during the afternoon, with the worst window between 2 PM ET and 5 PM ET. Damaging wind gusts and a quarter to half an inch of rain are possible.

The Washington Nationals vs. Seattle Mariners game on Sunday, June 14 at Nationals Park falls squarely in that storm window. Keep an eye on the team’s official communications for delays and have an indoor plan ready.

What To Wear Today

Light, breathable clothing is all you need. A patio umbrella 10ft gives you the shade to enjoy your outdoor space all afternoon without retreating inside. For Warped Tour, expect a long day on your feet in the sun — comfortable shoes and that sunscreen are non-negotiable.

Dinner Tonight

Tonight is a great night for something simple and satisfying — pasta or a quick stir-fry lets you spend more time on the patio and less time in the kitchen. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door. While you’re at it, a Father’s Day grilling set is a smart pickup — outdoor cooking conditions return early next week.

Next Few Days

After Sunday’s storms clear, the National Weather Service forecasts a cooler, primarily dry stretch to start the work week — a welcome reset. Temperatures and humidity are expected to build again by Thursday, with another round of potentially strong thunderstorms possible.
