Washington, DC is facing a wet Memorial Day, with a high near 76°F and a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms — if you had plans on the National Mall or along the Potomac, it’s time to call an audible.

Today’s Setup

Rain showers and patchy fog are already moving through the I-95 corridor this morning. The National Weather Service says a stalled boundary will push south as a cold front passes this afternoon, triggering another round of showers and thunderstorms — most likely along or just south of the I-66/US-48 corridor, peaking between midday and early evening ET. Winds stay light out of the southwest around 3 mph.

The Weather Prediction Center is flagging high atmospheric moisture across the Mid-Atlantic, meaning storm cells could drop locally heavy rain over urban areas. Flood-prone neighborhoods like Bloomingdale and low-lying streets near the Anacostia River should monitor conditions closely this afternoon. Avoid underpasses and low-water crossings if thunderstorms intensify.

Best Window To Be Outside

Your clearest chance to step out is before 11 AM ET. After that, fog thickens and storm chances climb through the afternoon. For outdoor Memorial Day ceremonies near Arlington Cemetery or the Tidal Basin, bring a rain jacket and plan for delays. This is not a day to leave the umbrella at home.

Tonight: Stay Dry Indoors

Storms should taper after 10 PM ET, with overnight lows dropping to around 63°F. Tonight’s indoor shows are an easy win — Lucinda Williams plays the 9:30 Club tonight. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you want a night of roots rock well away from the rain.

Looking Ahead: Mid-Week and Beyond

Tuesday still carries a 50% rain chance with a high near 79°F and more patchy fog through midday. The National Weather Service expects the active pattern to continue through Wednesday, then drier and seasonable conditions return to close out the week — your window for outdoor plans opens Thursday.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band bring “Land of Hope & Dreams” to Nationals Park on Wednesday, May 27 — Find tickets on StubHub and grab Official team gear on Fanatics to look the part. By May 31, Khalid hits The Anthem for the “It’s Always Summer Somewhere Tour” — a Khalid t-shirt is a solid show-night pick. When the sun returns Thursday, it’s also prime golf weather — the Callaway Big Bertha Fairway Wood deal is worth a look if your bag needs an upgrade.

Grilling When the Clouds Clear

Once conditions improve later this week, fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. Keep an instant-read meat thermometer handy for perfectly cooked results, and a grill brush and scraper set makes post-cookout cleanup a breeze. Need supplies? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered before dinner.

Next Few Days

Tuesday: fog and showers, high near 79°F. Wednesday: lingering storm chance. Thursday–Friday: drier and seasonable. Keep tabs on the Washington, DC weather forecast as the week develops, and browse outdoor gear deals to get ready for the sunny weekend ahead.
