Tampa–St. Petersburg wakes up to a scorching Sunday, June 14, with a high near 93°F and a heat index climbing to 102°F — get your outdoor plans done early and keep cold water within arm’s reach all day.

Today’s Setup

A textbook June pattern is locked in across the Bay area. The National Weather Service says a surface ridge holding south of us is driving a mainly westerly flow and pumping in deep Gulf moisture. Expect mostly sunny skies through early afternoon — great for a morning run along the Tampa Riverwalk or a paddle out at Fort De Soto. Just don’t count on that clear sky lasting all day.

Best Window To Be Outside

Aim to wrap up outdoor activities by 2 PM ET. The NWS forecasts isolated showers and thunderstorms developing after 4 PM ET, with the best storm chances pushing east toward Plant City, Lakeland, and other inland spots — that’s the classic sea breeze pattern for our part of Florida. Coastal areas like Clearwater Beach and St. Pete Beach will see lower odds, but don’t push your luck past 5 PM ET. In the lightning capital of the US, we take afternoon pop-ups seriously.

A pool float lounger makes for a perfect morning in the backyard before things heat up. Fill a Stanley quencher tumbler — or an insulated tumbler 30oz — with ice water before you step outside. Heat index values near 102°F will wear you down faster than you expect.

Heat and Rain Risk

The Storm Prediction Center has no severe weather outlook for our area today — this is routine afternoon convection with just a 20% chance of rain. Wind stays light at 1 to 9 mph out of the west. The real threat is the heat itself. Anyone working outside, kids playing at Lettuce Lake Park, or fans tailgating early should take shade breaks, hydrate constantly, and limit hard exertion between noon and 4 PM ET.

Tonight, a few lingering storms are possible before 8 PM ET, then skies clear to partly cloudy with a low around 79°F. Still sticky, but manageable for a porch sit.

Josh Groban at Benchmark International Arena — Friday, June 19

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Josh Groban with special guest Jennifer Hudson concert hits Benchmark International Arena on Friday, June 19. The extended forecast keeps us in the same near-normal June pattern — watch for a late-afternoon storm window, then clearing by showtime. Grab tickets on SeatGeek and dress the part with a Josh Groban t-shirt or Josh Groban hat for the show.

Too Hot to Cook? Tonight’s Meal Idea

Skip the stove entirely tonight. Cold Thai noodle salad, a build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls are all smart calls when the heat index is flirting with triple digits. A high-powered blender makes smoothie bowls and frozen drinks effortless. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Monday is nearly a carbon copy — sunny and 93°F with isolated storms after 4 PM ET and a heat index near 101°F. The NWS Discussion flags that a weak front stalling over northern Florida could nudge rain chances slightly higher along the Nature Coast Tuesday and Wednesday. By Thursday and Friday, a shift to a more southerly flow brings the sea breeze collision back closer to the coast, so Pinellas and coastal Hillsborough residents should watch for a wetter stretch to close out the week.

Track conditions daily on the Tampa weather forecast and check outdoor gear deals to stay cool all summer long.
