St. Louis wakes up to a mild, partly sunny Tuesday with a high near 88°F and just a slight chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms — so plan your outdoor time, but keep an eye on the sky after 2 PM CT.
Today’s Setup
An upper-level low is sliding east along the Missouri/Arkansas border this morning, and the National Weather Service in St. Louis says light northeast flow is keeping our temperatures and humidity a touch more comfortable than they’ve been the past couple of days. That same northeast wind (running 2 to 8 mph) is also dragging in slightly drier air, which forecasters say should limit any storm activity mostly to areas along and east of I-44 and south of I-70 across the river in Illinois. Chance of precipitation today sits at 20%, dropping off again by evening as daytime heating fades.
Best Window To Be Outside
Morning through early afternoon is your clear window — think Forest Park walks, Gateway Arch grounds, or a Grant’s Farm outing before storm chances tick up after 2 PM. If you’re mowing the lawn or tackling yard work, get it done before lunch. Wednesday looks similar but a few degrees warmer, near 91°F, with the same after-1 PM storm timing, so the pattern repeats.
Rain, Wind, Fire, Or Heat Risk
Deep-layer wind shear is weak both today and Wednesday, so the Weather Service isn’t expecting anything severe — just garden-variety pop-up showers and rumbles of thunder that should fizzle by evening. No excessive rainfall or fire weather concerns are flagged for our area right now. If you do get caught out, a packable rain jacket or a compact travel umbrella will cover you without weighing down a day bag.
What To Wear Or Bring
Light layers work well with highs in the upper 80s — breathable, ventilated workout shorts men will keep you comfortable if you’re active outside. Keep that rain jacket or umbrella handy for the drive home if storms fire up east of I-44.
Cardinals Homestand & Around Town
The St. Louis Cardinals host the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium tonight, Wednesday, and Thursday (July 7–9) — first pitch weather looks warm with only that same slight storm chance to watch for tonight and Wednesday. Grab your St. Louis Cardinals jersey or St. Louis Cardinals fitted cap for the ballpark, and if you still need seats, tickets on SeatGeek are worth a look. Country fans should mark July 9 for Tyler Childers at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater — pick up a Tyler Childers t-shirt and grab tickets on StubHub before the show.
Tonight’s Meal
With a bit of storm chance lingering into early evening, it’s a good night for slow-cooked comfort food — chili, beef stew, or a big pot of soup in the Dutch oven while you wait out any rumbles. A programmable slow cooker or an enameled cast iron Dutch oven makes it easy. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Expect temperatures to stay near to a few degrees above normal into the weekend, with Thursday pushing toward 96°F. The Weather Service is watching for more widespread thunderstorms from Thursday night through Friday night, so keep tabs on the forecast if you’ve got outdoor weekend plans.
