7 Tornadoes Confirmed Across Alabama, Florida and Texas in 48-Hour Outbreak

Seven tornadoes have been confirmed across Alabama, Florida, and Texas over the past 48 hours, the Storm Prediction Center reported, part of a broad severe-weather system that also produced 24 large hail reports and 52 damaging wind reports across the same region.

Confirmed tornado locations span a wide geographic corridor: Hereford in the Texas Panhandle; 9 miles north of Quemado in south Texas; 2 miles north-northeast of Parrish, Florida; Villa Tasso, Florida; and 1 mile east-northeast of Smyrna, Alabama. The Storm Prediction Center’s seven-tornado, three-state tally reflects both the geographic reach of the system and the field survey work that follows any significant outbreak.

In Texas, confirmed touchdowns struck two widely separated parts of the state: Hereford in the Panhandle and the area north of Quemado in Kinney County along the Rio Grande — a span that illustrates how broadly the complex extended across the region. The National Weather Service issued multiple alerts across the state as the system moved through.

The 52 damaging wind reports logged alongside the tornado activity indicate that destructive winds were the dominant hazard for many affected communities, producing downed trees, utility outages, and structural damage even in areas not directly under a tornado warning. The 24 large hail reports add further scope to a system whose full damage footprint is still being assessed by storm survey teams.

As of Wednesday, the National Weather Service had 7 active alerts in place across Alabama, Florida, and Texas. The immediate tornado threat tied to this system has largely passed, but residents in affected counties should check with their local National Weather Service office for any watches or warnings still in effect for their area.

In Florida, a confirmed tornado touched down near Parrish in Manatee County, placing the northern Tampa weather metro corridor in the storm’s path. The National Weather Service Tampa Bay Area office is expected to issue official damage survey results as field crews complete their assessments.

In Alabama, a tornado was confirmed approximately 1 mile east-northeast of Smyrna. The National Weather Service office serving central Alabama — including the Birmingham weather region — will post storm survey findings as that work proceeds.

Residents across the affected three-state area who experienced damage are encouraged to report it to their local National Weather Service office. Public reports help survey crews prioritize damage paths and contribute to more accurate warning products for future events.
