Seattle wakes up to a mild, mostly cloudy Thursday, July 2, with a high near 67°F and just a slight chance of light rain around 1-2 PM — pack a light layer, but there’s no need to cancel outdoor plans. The National Weather Service in Seattle says a weak front sliding down from the northwest won’t bring much more than a passing sprinkle before it fizzles out tonight.
Today’s Setup
Overnight lows dipped into the mid-50s under mostly cloudy skies, and today’s front is expected to reach the north coast late this afternoon while clouds thicken over the rest of the Puget Sound area. Winds stay light out of the south-southwest around 8 mph, so it’s a calm day around Green Lake, Alki Beach, or the Ballard Locks. The NWS pegs the rain chance at 20%, confined mainly to that two-hour midday window.
Best Window To Be Outside
If you’re walking the Burke-Gilman Trail, browsing Pike Place Market, or catching the ferry to Bainbridge, late morning before 1 PM or after roughly 3 PM keeps you clear of that brief shower chance. Skies stay mostly cloudy all day, so don’t count on a Mount Rainier view from Kerry Park today.
Rain, Wind, Or Flood Risk
No severe weather is expected — the Storm Prediction Center has no outlook out for our area, and the Weather Prediction Center’s excessive rainfall risk today targets the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, well away from Western Washington. NWS forecasters say tonight’s lingering shower chance fades by midnight as the front dissolves over the Northwest Interior.
What To Wear Or Bring
A light jacket or packable rain shell covers you for that midday window; leave the heavy rain gear at home. Yard work fans should hold off mowing until things dry out Friday or Saturday — a cordless lawn mower makes quick work of it once the grass isn’t damp.
Tonight’s Concert & This Weekend’s Games
Heading to Climate Pledge Arena tonight for the 5 Seconds of Summer show? Temps drop into the upper 50s by showtime, so grab a layer — a 5 Seconds of Summer t-shirt works fine under a jacket. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you’re still deciding.
Friday turns warmer and partly sunny near 73°F as the Seattle Mariners host the Los Angeles Angels at T-Mobile Park — good tailgating weather with just light southwest winds. Grab a Seattle Mariners jersey or Seattle Mariners fitted cap before first pitch.
Next Few Days
Per the NWS discussion, Friday’s weak upper-level trough dissipates Friday night, clearing the way for a “pretty normal first week of July” Saturday and a slow warming, drying trend into next week as a ridge builds in from the Southwest.
Dinner Idea
With Friday turning warm and dry, it’s a good night to fire up the grill — the pork loin deal we spotted this week smokes up perfectly for a cookout. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
