Seattle wakes up to mostly cloudy skies today, with highs near 72°F and only a slight chance of light rain arriving after 5 PM — plenty of window to get your Sunday outdoors before the clouds thicken tonight.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service says a slow-moving front sitting offshore is nudging inland today. Doppler radar already shows rain along the coast down toward Hoquiam this morning, and forecasters expect those showers to spread into the Puget Sound area “from about Seattle northward” by late afternoon. Cloud cover is keeping the temperature spread tight, with a high near 72°F and a south-southwest wind around 9 mph.
Best Window To Be Outside
Morning through mid-afternoon is your best bet — before the 20% rain chance kicks in after 5 PM. If you’re headed to Green Lake, Alki Beach, or a walk around Discovery Park, aim to wrap up by late afternoon. The front weakens and dissipates overnight, with lows around 58-60°F and mostly cloudy skies persisting into early Monday.
Rain Chances And Timing
Tonight’s rain chance is low (around 15%) and should taper off before 8 PM per the forecast discussion. No severe weather or excessive rainfall risk is expected for Western Washington today — the Weather Prediction Center’s flood concerns are focused on the Southeast U.S. and Four Corners region, well outside our area.
What To Wear Or Bring
Layer up: a light jacket for the morning marine air, but nothing heavier needed with highs in the low 70s. If you’re out on Puget Sound fishing or boating this afternoon, it’s worth grabbing a UPF 50+ Sun Hoodie for Just $5 before the sun pokes through the cloud breaks.
Games, Concerts And Gear
Tuesday brings the Seattle Storm vs. Indiana Fever at Climate Pledge Arena, plus the Tacoma Rainiers vs. Sacramento River Cats at Cheney Stadium. Grab official team gear on Fanatics or find tickets on StubHub for the Storm matchup. Later in the week, Jason Aldean plays Cascades Amphitheater Thursday (Jason Aldean t-shirt for the show), and Ed Sheeran’s LOOP Tour hits Lumen Field Saturday, August 1 — both outdoor venues that should benefit from the drier, warmer stretch forecasters expect by then. Get tickets on SeatGeek and grab an Ed Sheeran t-shirt or Ed Sheeran hoodie before you go.
Tonight’s Dinner Idea
With clouds hanging around and a stray shower possible this evening, a warm pasta or stir-fry dinner fits the mood perfectly — comfort food for a gray Seattle Sunday. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Monday brings a temporary ridge and sunny skies with highs near 78°F — a great day to fire up the portable propane grill or knock out yard work with a cordless lawn mower while it’s dry. A weak front returns Tuesday, but the NWS outlook calls for dry, warmer weather building back in Wednesday through Friday as high pressure strengthens over the Pacific Northwest.
