Seattle is waking up to mostly cloudy skies and 51°F this Friday, June 5, with thunderstorms possible after noon — get your outdoor time in this morning before conditions deteriorate.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service gives Friday a 51% chance of precipitation, with a storm window opening between noon and 5 PM PT. An upper-level shortwave is spinning out of a low-pressure system tracking slowly southeast toward Western Washington. Highs will reach near 63°F before slipping back toward 61°F in the afternoon as clouds thicken. South-southwest winds of 9 to 13 mph will add to the chill — it’ll feel more like early April than June.

Your morning window is legit: Green Lake, Volunteer Park, the Burke-Gilman Trail, and Alki Beach are all reasonable before 11 AM. After that, keep radar handy.

Rain & Wind Risk

With gusts 9 to 13 mph out of the south-southwest, anything loose on your deck or balcony is fair game. A bungee cord assortment or outdoor furniture covers will save you a trip to the neighbor’s yard to retrieve your cushions.

Saturday is the rough day of the weekend. The National Weather Service has the upper-level low parking itself directly over Western Washington Saturday afternoon, pushing precipitation chances to 83% with likely thunderstorms, potential small hail, and snow levels dropping to around 4,500 feet — yes, in June. Saturday’s high: only 58°F, and mountain passes like Stevens and Snoqualmie could see a wintry mix. If you’re heading to Bob Dylan at Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery on Saturday, June 6, pack serious rain gear and consider a pop-up canopy tent with weights for the parking area.

Events: Indoor Is the Smart Call

Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers (Indigo Park Tour) plays the Neptune Theatre tonight, Friday June 5 — an indoor venue on a stormy evening is exactly where you want to be. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you’re still on the fence.

The Human League with Very Special Guests Soft Cell & Alison Moyet lands at Marymoor Live on June 8 — read our full preview for what to expect at that outdoor amphitheater setting.

The Tacoma Rainiers host the Albuquerque Isotopes at Cheney Stadium on June 9. Sunday’s forecast is the best of the stretch, with a temporary ridge building — that could be the most comfortable outdoor sports window of the weekend. Pick up Official team gear on Fanatics before you head down to Tacoma.

What To Wear

Layering is mandatory: waterproof shell, mid-layer fleece, and waterproof footwear if you’re out after noon. This is not a sandals weekend.

Dinner Tonight

A stormy Friday calls for something low-effort and warming — a big bowl of pasta with garlic, olive oil, and whatever’s in the fridge is hard to beat. You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered before the first rumbles roll through. A coloring book for adults is a solid Plan B if the family gets stuck inside on Saturday.

Next Few Days

Sunday offers a brief upper-level ridge — the best outdoor window of the weekend, so plan accordingly. But the National Weather Service says another upper trough arrives early next week, keeping showers and below-normal temperatures through Wednesday or Thursday. A stronger ridge may try to build by next Thursday. Stay tuned to the Seattle weather forecast for updates as the pattern evolves.
