San Francisco is starting Tuesday, May 12 under Karl the Fog’s familiar grip — a deep marine layer blanketing the coast and pushing further inland than yesterday — with afternoon highs expected to reach near 64°F before easing back to around 61°F by late afternoon. If you’re planning your day around the fog, here’s what the National Weather Service is telling us.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service notes the marine layer is running 1,000–1,500 feet deep this morning, with light mist possible along the Outer Sunset and Ocean Beach through midmorning. West-southwest winds build to 5–14 mph during the day, with gusts up to 21 mph in the afternoon — a classic SF sea breeze, not a storm. Rain odds sit at just 2%, so no umbrella needed. The cool-down today is intentional: an upstream upper low has been nudging the pattern toward seasonal averages after some warmer days.

Best Window To Be Outside

Inland neighborhoods — the Mission, Dolores Park, Twin Peaks, and Noe Valley — should see skies brighten by late morning as the stratus burns back. The coast and the Outer Richmond may stay gray most of the day. Your sweet spot for outdoor time is roughly 11 AM to 1 PM, when temperatures peak and afternoon winds haven’t fully kicked in yet.

Allergy Check

Breezy onshore flow is circulating pollen through Bay Area neighborhoods today. Keep an allergy relief nasal spray on hand before heading to Golden Gate Park or the Panhandle. At home, running a HEPA air purifier helps filter what drifts inside — especially with windows open during the midday break.

A’s Games and Chase Center Events

The good news for the rest of the week: Wednesday clears out beautifully — sunny skies and a high near 66°F — making it a great day for baseball. The Oakland Athletics host the St. Louis Cardinals at Sutter Health Park on May 13 and May 14. Evening temps will drop into the mid-50s by first pitch, so layer up. An Oakland Athletics jersey paired with an Oakland Athletics fitted cap is the right call for those cool East Bay nights. Find tickets on StubHub before they sell out.

Over at Chase Center, the Golden State Valkyries host the Chicago Sky on May 13 (indoors — no fog issues). Romeo Santos & Prince Royce bring the Mejor Tarde Que Nunca Tour on May 14, also indoors. Then on Friday, May 15, the Florence + The Machine — Everybody Scream Tour takes the Chase Center stage — grab a Florence + The Machine t-shirt to make a night of it.

Tonight’s Dinner

A cool, foggy SF evening is prime pasta weather — a simple garlic-olive-oil spaghetti or a vegetable stir-fry comes together in 20 minutes and warms the whole apartment. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Wednesday is the coolest day of the stretch — sunny but breezy, west winds gusting near 22 mph, high only near 66°F. The National Weather Service is calling for a warming and drying trend to build from Thursday onward, so the back half of the week looks like proper late-spring Bay Area. If the improving forecast has you thinking about summer on the water, check out the West Marine ski vest deal — just $15 to stock up for boating season. More outdoor gear deals are worth a look as the sun returns.

Upcoming Home Games
