San Francisco weather today brings heavy rain and thunderstorms, with a high near 66°F and a 90% chance of precipitation throughout the day—so leave the Giants gameday plans flexible and keep your umbrella handy.

A deep upper-level low offshore is drifting eastward into Northern California, bringing an extended period of light to moderate rainfall that’ll stick around through Tuesday evening. Here’s what to expect in your neighborhood:

Monday (Today): Rain chances start before 2 PM, then showers and thunderstorms develop between 2–5 PM as temperatures fall from 66°F down to 62°F. South-southwest winds at 9–16 mph with gusts up to 25 mph will make it feel even chillier. Expect a quarter to half-inch of new rainfall. The National Weather Service notes that burn scars and steep terrain in the hills favor localized flash flooding, so avoid driving through low-lying areas and creek crossings if possible.

Monday Night: Rain intensifies and continues steady through Tuesday morning, with another half to three-quarters of an inch possible. Low around 54°F. This is a night to stay cozy indoors—perfect for that slow cooker chili or beef stew you’ve been meaning to make.

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms persist through the morning before gradually clearing. High near 64°F. Tuesday evening looks drier, so if you’re heading to the Giants vs. Dodgers game at Oracle Park on Wednesday or Thursday, those days are shaping up much better.

What to Pack & Wear: This is no time for a light jacket. Grab a packable rain jacket that won’t take up much room in your bag—you’ll want something you can stuff in your backpack for the commute from BART or your car. A compact travel umbrella fits in any pocket and handles the gusty winds better than a full-size one. If you’re walking around the Mission, Hayes Valley, or heading to Golden Gate Park, waterproof hiking boots beat soggy sneakers every time. For those of us biking across the Bay Bridge or around the Embarcadero, a waterproof phone pouch keeps your device safe while you navigate the wet pavement.

Gameday & Events: The Giants host the Dodgers on Wednesday and Thursday at Oracle Park—both days look significantly drier with clearing skies and seasonal temperatures. Plan your tailgating and stadium snacks accordingly. If you’re catching Journey’s Final Frontier Tour at Golden 1 Center on Tuesday evening, expect to arrive in wet conditions, so allow extra travel time from the Bay Area.

Dinner Idea: With rain all day and temperatures in the low 60s, tonight’s the perfect night for a slow cooker chili or hearty beef stew. Set it this morning and come home to warm comfort food. Did you know you can order groceries on Amazon? Get everything you need for tonight’s dinner—ground beef, beans, spices, or stew meat—delivered straight to your door.

Looking Ahead: By Wednesday afternoon, this system moves inland and conditions dry out. Seasonal temperatures return for the rest of the week with mostly sunny skies—ideal for outdoor activities by Friday. Stay safe out there, and remember: Karl the Fog might be taking a break, but we’re getting the rain he usually brings!
