San Francisco is in for a sunny, hot Thursday with temperatures climbing to near 82°F — the hottest day of the week — making it prime time to get outside before afternoon winds ease the heat back toward 75°F.
Today’s Setup
Clear skies and a building southwest breeze (up to 12 mph) will dominate the city today. Fog-prone neighborhoods like the Outer Sunset and Richmond will stay comfortable, but the Mission, Noe Valley, and anywhere east of Twin Peaks will feel genuinely warm. The National Weather Service notes a moderate heat risk for interior Bay Area locations today and Friday — drink water and avoid pushing hard in the midday sun.
Fire and Wind Alert Inland
The bigger story today isn’t the heat in the city — it’s what’s happening in the hills. The National Weather Service has issued a critical fire weather threat for the interior North Bay and East Bay Mountains through the morning. Offshore winds are generating gusts of 30 to 40 mph at elevation, and mountain wave activity could push isolated gusts above 60 mph on the ridgelines. Combined with critically dry conditions, this is a serious setup. If you’re anywhere near Marin, the Sonoma hills, or the East Bay ridges today, be extremely careful with anything that could spark.
Coastal Caution
The National Weather Service is also flagging an increased risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents along south and southwest-facing Bay Area beaches through the weekend. Ocean Beach looks inviting today, but stay well back from the water’s edge — sneaker waves arrive without warning. Minor coastal flooding is also possible around high tide due to elevated water levels.
What to Wear and Bring
Classic SF layering applies: light jacket in the morning, shorts and sunscreen for the afternoon heat, and something to pull on once the marine air rolls back in after 3 PM. Heading to Dolores Park or spreading out near the Great Meadow at Crissy Field? A picnic basket set for 4 is perfect for making the most of this warm afternoon sunshine.
Weekend Events
Saturday, June 13 is stacked. The San Francisco Giants host the Chicago Cubs at Oracle Park under sunny skies in the low-to-mid 70s — about as good as ballpark weather gets in SF. They play again Sunday, June 14, so it’s a full home series. Get tickets on SeatGeek for either game.
Also on June 13: World Cup Match 8 Group B — Qatar vs Switzerland kicks off at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. Warm and clear all afternoon, so wear sunscreen and bring water. Find tickets on StubHub before they’re gone.
Down in San Jose, Chuy Lizarraga Y Julio Preciado perform at SAP Center at San Jose on June 13. Grab a Chuy Lizarraga t-shirt to rep the show — it’ll be a warm evening out.
Dinner Tonight
Hot days call for something light — pasta primavera with fresh summer vegetables keeps cooking quick and the kitchen cool. With Father’s Day around the corner, a Father’s Day grilling set is a timely gift idea if the weekend cookout is on your calendar (conditions will cooperate). Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Friday looks lovely — sunny with a high near 75°F and light WSW winds of 3 to 12 mph. The dry, clear stretch holds into the weekend, perfect for outdoor plans across the Bay. Check outdoor gear deals if you want to make the most of the sunshine, and if a lazy float sounds good this weekend, the 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge with Cooler is just $24 — a genuine steal for hot Bay Area days.
