San Francisco weather today brings partly sunny skies with a high near 64°F—cool and pleasant for early May, but keep an eye on tonight when a 50% chance of rain moves in across the Bay Area.

Here’s what the National Weather Service is tracking: a slow-moving upper-level low center about 100 miles southwest of Monterey is interacting with warmer air aloft, triggering light to moderate rain that’ll begin in the North Bay this afternoon and spread across much of the Bay Area by tonight. The heaviest activity looks to arrive between 9 PM and 5 AM PT, with rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter inch possible—nothing severe, but enough to warrant an umbrella if you’re heading out after dark.

Your Monday game plan:

If you’re catching the San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres at Oracle Park on Tuesday, May 5th, you’re in luck: Tuesday looks partly sunny with a high near 65°F and just a 5% chance of rain. Winds will be light at 5 to 10 mph from the west, making it a solid day to grab a San Francisco Giants jersey or San Francisco Giants fitted cap and settle in for some baseball. Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub to lock in your spot. Tonight’s rain shouldn’t interfere with Tuesday’s game, and the cooler temps will keep you comfortable in the stands.

For outdoor activities today, the west-southwest wind at 3 to 10 mph is manageable—good for a walk around Golden Gate Park or along the Embarcadero before the rain. Temperatures will actually fall to around 62°F in the afternoon, so layers are your friend. If you were planning to grill tonight, push it to Wednesday or Thursday when drier conditions return.

Allergy heads: The cooler, moister air moving in can sometimes trigger sinus issues. If you’re sensitive to Bay Area pollen and mold spores, consider picking up an allergy relief nasal spray or pollen count face mask before tonight’s system rolls through. A HEPA air purifier can also help keep indoor air clean while rain and moisture linger.

Looking ahead:

Tuesday clears out nicely, and by midweek we’re tracking warmer, drier conditions. Wednesday and Thursday should be pleasant—think 65–68°F with mostly sunny skies. If you’ve got outdoor plans, Tuesday afternoon through Thursday is your window.

For tonight’s dinner, a warm pasta or stir-fry pairs perfectly with cool, rainy weather. You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered, or pick up ingredients for a cozy meal at home.
