San Francisco is running seasonably cool and breezy today, Monday, July 6, with a high near 66°F under partly sunny skies once the morning fog burns off. If you’re planning anything outside, the sweet spot is midday through early afternoon before the wind and Karl the Fog make their return engagement tonight.
Today’s Setup
According to the National Weather Service Bay Area office, the marine layer pushed unusually far inland overnight, socking in the Sonoma County valleys, the SF Bay Area, and even the Livermore hills. Expect gradual inland clearing through the morning and early afternoon, but the coast — think Ocean Beach and the Golden Gate — stays gray longer. West-southwest wind runs 6 to 14 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph this afternoon, so it’ll feel brisker than the thermometer suggests, especially near the water.
Best Window To Be Outside
Late morning into early afternoon is your best bet before the breeze builds and clouds thicken back up this evening — lows drop to around 54°F overnight with west winds gusting to 21 mph. Dog walks in Golden Gate Park or a jog along the Marina are more comfortable before 2 p.m. Tuesday looks broadly similar, with a high near 64°F and an even stronger afternoon breeze.
Rip Current And Wind Risk
The NWS is flagging a long-period southwest swell that raises the risk of sneaker waves and strong rip currents along the coast from Tuesday through Friday — keep well back from the waterline at Ocean Beach and other exposed shorelines. If you’re headed out to fish the pier or surf zone this week, a solid Plano Double-Sided Tackle Box keeps your gear organized while you stay alert to the water.
What To Wear Or Bring
Layers are non-negotiable — a windproof beanie wool cap will save your ears once that WSW wind kicks up along the Embarcardero or at the ballpark. No rain is in the forecast, so leave the umbrella home.
Giants Baseball And Concerts This Week
The San Francisco Giants host the Toronto Blue Jays at Oracle Park on Tuesday, July 7, and again on Wednesday, July 8, with cool, breezy bayside conditions expected both nights — bring a jacket for the tailgate. Grab a San Francisco Giants jersey or San Francisco Giants fitted cap before first pitch, and Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub if you still need seats. Across the bay, ROSALÍA brings her LUX Tour to Oakland Arena tonight, July 6. Later this week, catch Chris Stapleton’s All-American Road Show at Shoreline Amphitheatre on July 8 (a Chris Stapleton t-shirt makes a solid souvenir), and Olivia Dean: The Art Of Loving Live hits Chase Center on July 10 — an Olivia Dean t-shirt or Olivia Dean hat pairs nicely with tickets on SeatGeek.
Dinner Tonight
With the cool, foggy evening settling in, something warm and simple like pasta or a quick stir-fry hits the spot. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Tuesday stays cool and breezy, similar to today, before a warming trend arrives for the second half of the week, per the National Weather Service. No rain is expected, but keep an eye on those coastal rip currents through Friday. For more deals to gear up for the week ahead, check out our outdoor gear deals.
