San Antonio is looking at a hot, mostly sunny Independence Day with a high near 95°F and heat index values climbing to around 101°F, so shift outdoor plans to the morning or evening and keep water within reach all day.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service says a strengthening subtropical high building between New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle is locking in sinking, dry air over South Central Texas today. Winds stay light out of the south-southeast around 5 mph, skies are mostly sunny, and rain chances sit at 0%. Tonight cools only to near 76°F under partly cloudy skies, with heat index values still near 100°F after dark thanks to the mugginess. Sunday repeats the pattern with a high near 95°F, and the Area Forecast Discussion notes heat index values could run 100-107°F, with an isolated spot or two touching 108°F for an hour or two.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning before 10 AM CT is your best bet for yard work, dog walks along the River Walk, or a stroll through Brackenridge Park before the sun takes over. Once you hit the 1-6 PM stretch, heat index values near 101°F make strenuous outdoor activity risky, especially for kids, older folks, and anyone near Lackland or Fort Sam Houston headed out for holiday errands. Evening, once the sun dips after 8 PM, is the more comfortable window for fireworks and river walks downtown.

Heat Risk & What To Wear

With no rain in the forecast and the subtropical high firmly in charge, heat is today’s only real hazard. A Yeti rambler water bottle or insulated tumbler 30oz will keep drinks cold for hours outside, and a portable misting fan is worth having on the porch or at any backyard gathering. If you’re near the river or a pool, a pool float lounger and a soft cooler backpack make it easy to stay cool and hydrated without hauling a full cooler.

Fireworks, Ye At The Alamodome & Weekend Events

Ye Live in San Antonio hits the Alamodome tonight, and with heat index values still near 100°F at showtime, plan to hydrate before you head downtown — grab a Ye t-shirt, Ye hoodie, or Ye hat if you’re dressing for the show, and look for tickets on SeatGeek. Out toward the Hill Country, Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic and Fireworks at Germania Insurance Amphitheater is also tonight — tickets on StubHub — but expect the same dry, hot conditions, so pack water for that one too.

Dinner Idea & Next Few Days

It’s too hot to fire up the stove tonight, so lean into a cold Thai noodle salad, a build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls — a high-powered blender makes quick work of the smoothie base. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door. Looking ahead, the National Weather Service expects Sunday and Monday to stay dry and near 95°F, with the subtropical high keeping South Central Texas hot and essentially rain-free through the work week — so if you’re planning fishing or grilling later this week, check out outdoor gear deals to stay ready for the heat.
