San Antonio is waking up to a storm-loaded Sunday, June 14 — expect a high of 91°F, a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, and a heat index that could climb to 103°F by afternoon. If you had outdoor plans today, read this first.
Today’s Setup
Rain showers were already developing across the area early this morning, and the National Weather Service office in Austin/San Antonio says coverage will keep expanding. The atmosphere is deeply saturated, with precipitable water values forecast to approach or exceed the 99th percentile — meaning any storm that fires today could drop a quick inch or more of rain. The best window for organized thunderstorms is between 10 AM and 4 PM CT, with activity likely continuing into tonight. The overnight low stays near 76°F with more storm chances after dark.
Flash Flood Risk: Take This Seriously
The Weather Prediction Center has placed San Antonio in a Slight Risk zone for excessive rainfall today, and the NWS is warning of pockets of heavy rain and isolated to scattered flash flooding possible Sunday through Tuesday morning. This is Flash Flood Alley — the low-water crossings along the Hill Country and drainage along the San Antonio River can rise faster than most people expect. If you’re planning an afternoon on the River Walk, keep a close eye on water levels. Never drive through a flooded roadway. Turn around, don’t drown.
Best Window To Be Outside
Your safest outdoor window is early morning before 10 AM CT. A walk at Brackenridge Park or a jog along the Mission Reach Trails is doable before the storm coverage expands. After mid-morning, plan to be near shelter.
What To Wear Or Bring
Skip the open-toed shoes if you’re venturing out — wet sidewalks and active lightning are a bad mix. Pack a rain jacket and carry an insulated tumbler 30oz to stay hydrated in the oppressive heat and humidity. If afternoon storms pin the whole family inside, a family card game set is a lifesaver.
Events This Week
Don Toliver: Octane Tour hits Frost Bank Center on Monday, June 15 — an indoor show, so storm timing won’t be a factor. Grab a Don Toliver t-shirt and Find tickets on StubHub if you still need seats.
Spurs fans — circle June 19. If the San Antonio Spurs force a Game 7 against the New York Knicks at Frost Bank Center, you’ll want to be ready. Pick up your Official team gear on Fanatics now, and Get tickets on SeatGeek before they’re gone. The game is indoors at Frost Bank Center, so rain won’t affect game day.
Dinner Idea
It’s too hot to cook — make it a smoothie bowl night instead. A high-powered blender handles frozen fruit, yogurt, and toppings in minutes, and keeps you out of a sweltering kitchen. Keep everything cold in your insulated tumbler 30oz. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered straight to your door.
Next Few Days
Monday’s rain chance bumps to 80% with a slightly cooler high near 86°F — still unsettled and humid. Flash flooding risk continues through Tuesday morning. The NWS is also watching a tropical disturbance over Mexico and a separate disturbance over the Texas Panhandle that could keep rain in the picture through the end of next week. Stay with your San Antonio weather forecast for the latest updates.
