Sacramento is in for a sunny, comfortable Tuesday with a high near 87°F — a few degrees below normal for early July — before a warming trend kicks in for the rest of the week. If you’ve been putting off outdoor plans, today and tonight are the pick of the week before the heat builds back in.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service in Sacramento says clear skies dominate the interior valley today, with only a few high clouds passing overhead. Winds stay light out of the south-southwest at 5 to 9 mph, so it’ll feel pleasant from Midtown to East Sacramento. Overnight lows settle near 55, and forecasters note the Delta breeze and continued onshore flow are helping keep nights comfortable even as the week warms.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning through late afternoon is your best stretch today — sunny, dry, and mild by valley standards. That makes it a great day for a run along the American River Parkway or a picnic in William Land Park before winds pick up. The NWS discussion flags southerly gusts up to 25 knots developing by evening, with Delta breeze gusts of 25 to 30 knots possible overnight into Tuesday night, so secure patio umbrellas and loose yard items before you turn in.

Rain, Wind, Fire, Or Heat Risk

No rain is in the forecast — precipitation chances sit at 0% through Wednesday. Sacramento isn’t under any watches or warnings right now, and the region isn’t included in today’s Storm Prediction Center or Weather Prediction Center risk areas. That said, the NWS is watching Thursday through Saturday for near-to-above-normal heat and areas of Moderate HeatRisk across the Valley, so plan strenuous outdoor work for the morning later this week.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light layers work fine today, but with highs climbing to 90 by Wednesday and warmer still by the weekend, now’s a smart time to grab an insulated water bottle to keep in the car or at the office. If you’re heading to the American River or Discovery Park for a float this week, a beach towel oversized is an easy grab for drying off between dips.

Tonight’s Big Show — And Tomorrow’s

If you’re headed downtown, 5 Seconds of Summer brings the EVERYONE’S A STAR! World Tour to Golden 1 Center tonight, July 7 — mild temps and light wind make for an easy walk in from parking. Grab tickets on SeatGeek if you’re still deciding, and a 5 Seconds of Summer t-shirt or 5 Seconds of Summer hoodie makes a solid concert-night layer once the evening breeze picks up. Wednesday, July 8, Forrest Frank’s Jesus Generation Tour takes the same stage — tickets on StubHub, plus a Forrest Frank t-shirt for the show.

Dinner Tonight

With a mild evening ahead, tonight’s a good night for something simple like pasta or a quick stir-fry rather than firing up the grill in the heat. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door — Amazon Fresh groceries makes it easy to skip the store run.

Next Few Days

Wednesday climbs to near 90 as high pressure builds in, and the NWS expects Moderate HeatRisk to develop Thursday through the weekend across the Valley, with the hottest readings up in the northern Sacramento Valley. Check the full Sacramento weather forecast for updates, browse outdoor gear deals before the heat returns, and if you’re floating the river this week, the Intex 2-Person floating lounge is a nice way to beat it.
