Sacramento is waking up to a clear, sunny Sunday with a high near 95°F — and the National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning in effect for the northern Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills through 11 PM Tuesday. If you’re anywhere from Elk Grove to Roseville, this is a heat event to take seriously. Check the Sacramento weather forecast for daily updates.

Today’s Setup

Skies stay clear all day with south winds at 2 to 9 mph — not enough breeze to matter. Temperatures peak in the mid-afternoon before easing overnight to around 58°F. That nighttime cooldown is your best recovery window. The NWS Sacramento office is calling this a Widespread Major HeatRisk event, with the hottest stretch arriving Monday — especially north of I-80 toward Natomas and beyond.

Heat Risk and Safety

The Extreme Heat Warning runs from 11 AM Sunday through 11 PM Tuesday across the northern Sacramento Valley, adjacent mountains, and Butte County. The NWS is forecasting highs up to 110°F in some northern Valley locations, with overnight lows only dropping to the upper 60s to mid 70s in the hottest zones — meaning bodies don’t get a chance to recover between days. Sacramento proper should see overnight lows near 58°F, which is more forgiving, but daytime heat is still dangerous.

Stay indoors during peak heat (noon to 6 PM), check on elderly neighbors, and never leave kids or pets in a parked car.

Best Window To Be Outside

Get out before 9 AM. If you’re planning an early run along the American River Parkway or a walk through Land Park, a hydration running vest keeps water handy without slowing you down. For families, set up a kiddie splash pad in the backyard shade before noon, or let the kids loose on a slip and slide while the morning is still manageable.

Heading to Folsom Lake or the river? Check out the 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge with Cooler Just $24 on Amazon — it’s a smart way to cool off without breaking the bank. Bring a rolling cooler with wheels loaded with cold water and snacks.

What To Wear Or Bring

Dress light. quick dry swim trunks are ideal if you’re near any water. For errands or outdoor work, moisture wicking undershirts men make a real difference when the thermometer sits at 95°F. Sunscreen and a wide-brim hat are non-negotiable. Plan to drink at least 32 oz of water per person per hour in peak heat.

Dinner Idea

Skip the oven tonight — a cold pasta salad or a quick stir-fry keeps your kitchen cool. Both come together in under 20 minutes and taste great chilled. Need ingredients without the parking lot heat? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door. Amazon Fresh groceries makes it easy to stock up on produce and proteins without a trip to the store.

Next Few Days

Monday matches today almost exactly — sunny with a high near 95°F and winds gusting to 20 mph. The NWS forecasts that Monday is the peak danger day for areas north of I-80. Relief arrives mid-to-late week, with temperatures trending back toward normal by Thursday and Friday. Hold tight, Sacramento — cooler days are coming.
