Portland is waking up to a gorgeous Tuesday with sunny skies and a high near 83°F — a welcome 8-to-20-degree cool-down from the record-breaking heat that baked the Rose City over the past several days. The National Weather Service says onshore flow returned overnight, and today is the day to get outside and take full advantage of it.
Today’s Setup
A light NNW breeze is already rolling in off the Pacific, keeping things comfortable across the Willamette Valley floor. Winds run 2 to 12 mph with gusts up to 21 mph through the afternoon — lively enough to feel along the Columbia River Gorge and rustle the trees in Forest Park, but nothing problematic. Temperatures peak near 83°F around midday before easing to around 80°F later in the afternoon as the onshore push strengthens. Tonight clears out beautifully to a low around 53°F.
Best Window To Be Outside
Honestly, all day — but late morning through early afternoon is the sweet spot before afternoon gusts build. The Eastbank Esplanade, Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and Forest Park trailheads will all be gorgeous. Golfers at Eastmoreland or Heron Lakes should note that NNW gusts can complicate club selection by midday, so morning tee times win today. If yard work has been piling up, it’s also an ideal afternoon to knock it out before Thursday’s heat returns.
Wind & Gear Tips
Gusts to 21 mph won’t cause damage, but they will send lighter patio cushions airborne. If you’re setting up for an outdoor gathering, stake down a pop-up canopy tent with weights and use a bungee cord assortment to keep covers and tarps from catching the breeze. Browse outdoor gear deals for anything you want before the warmer stretch develops later this week.
Events This Week
Wednesday, June 17 brings a double-header: the Portland Fire host the Seattle Storm at Moda Center (indoors — weather-proof), and Back to the Future the Musical opens at Keller Auditorium. Both are excellent mid-week options — Get tickets on SeatGeek before they go. Show some home-team love with Official team gear on Fanatics for the Fire game.
Grilling & Tonight’s Dinner
Sunny 83°F afternoons were made for backyard cooking. Fire up burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob tonight — the weather could not be better for it. An instant-read meat thermometer takes the guesswork out of doneness every time, and a grill brush and scraper set keeps the grates clean and ready. Need to stock the fridge? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door. While you’re at it, the 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge with Cooler for just $24 is a smart add-to-cart for weekend float plans on the river.
Next Few Days
Wednesday stays pleasant — mostly sunny, high near 81°F, with lighter winds (2 to 9 mph, gusts to 18 mph). Then Thursday heats back up: the National Weather Service forecasts a high near 88°F, with a 20-to-45% chance of touching 90°F across interior lowlands from Corvallis to Vancouver. Friday looks similarly warm. Bookmark the Portland weather forecast and check back daily as this warm stretch develops — it may rival what we just came through.
