Portland is easing into a mild, partly sunny Thursday with a high near 75°F, just a 4% chance of a stray sprinkle, and light north-northwest wind around 3 mph — about as pleasant a day as you’ll find to get outside before temperatures climb further into the holiday weekend.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service Portland office says models are in unusually strong agreement through July 8, which is why this is a high-confidence forecast: near-zonal flow aloft holds through Sunday, then turns southwesterly early next week as surface high pressure builds in for the holiday. Overnight lows stay mild too, bottoming out around 52°F before creeping back up to near 54°F by early morning under mostly cloudy skies.
Best Window To Be Outside
With winds barely stirring (1 to 5 mph tonight, 3 mph today), late morning through mid-afternoon is your best stretch for a walk around Laurelhurst Park, a loop on the Eastbank Esplanade, or a ride along the Springwater Corridor. Friday warms further to near 80°F under mostly sunny skies with light NNW wind, so if you’re saving a longer outing — a hike toward Forest Park or an afternoon at Oaks Bottom — Friday afternoon is shaping up to be the pick of the week.
Heat Trend Into The Holiday Weekend
Forecasters note inland valleys, including the Portland metro, will warm from the 70s today into the low-to-mid 80s Friday through early next week, while the coast stays in the 60s thanks to onshore flow. NBM guidance puts the odds of hitting 90°F at just 0-10% most days, ticking up slightly to 5-15% Monday, so this reads as a normal, minor-HeatRisk warmup, not a heat emergency. There’s no severe storm or excessive rainfall risk in the forecast for our area right now. The bigger caution from NWS Portland: rivers and lakes remain cold and can run swift in spots, so if the Willamette or the Columbia River Gorge is on your weekend list, treat the water with respect even as the air warms.
What To Wear Or Bring
Light layers cover you well — shorts and a t-shirt by afternoon, a light jacket for cool mornings and evenings. Tonight the Hillsboro Hops host the Spokane Indians at Hillsboro Ballpark, and with calm wind and temperatures easing into the 60s by first pitch, it’s comfortable tailgating and ballpark weather. Round out the trip with official team gear on Fanatics. Later this week, Wolfmother plays Revolution Hall - Portland on July 3, and JINJER brings the Duel North America 2026 tour to McMenamins Crystal Ballroom on July 7 — get tickets on SeatGeek or find tickets on StubHub before they sell out, and a JINJER t-shirt makes a fun pickup for that show. With dry, mild evenings ahead, it’s also a good stretch to get the yard ready: an oscillating lawn sprinkler keeps the lawn from drying out as temperatures climb, and a TIKI Brand resin smokeless fire pit is worth setting up on the patio before the Fourth of July crowds arrive.

Next Few Days
Expect near 80°F Friday, a cool Friday night near 55°F, then continued warming into the mid-80s by the weekend as high pressure builds. With a dry, mild evening ahead, a smoked pork loin off the portable propane grill is a great call tonight, or keep it simple with pasta or a quick stir-fry. Need ingredients?
