Portland is in for a classic weather flip today — mostly cloudy skies and a high near 76°F, but a frontal system arrives tonight that’ll keep us cool and wet through the weekend. Get outside early if you can; the afternoon window is genuinely nice before things change. For the full Portland weather forecast, here’s what to expect.
Today’s Setup
Temperatures peak near 76°F this afternoon under mostly cloudy skies with a light west-northwest wind of 2 to 6 mph. Forest Park, the Eastbank Esplanade, and the Waterfront are all solid options through midday and into early afternoon.
The National Weather Service warns a cold frontal boundary reaches the coast by late afternoon, then pushes into the I-5 corridor after 5 PM tonight. A slight 20% rain chance materializes after 5 PM — but most of your Thursday is dry.
Good news for folks heading to Jerry Seinfeld at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall tonight: the rain should hold off through showtime. Grab tickets on StubHub if you haven’t yet.
Rain, Wind, and Weekend Risk
Tonight brings a sharp shift: 90% chance of rain, a low near 55°F, and south-southwest gusts up to 20 mph. Friday continues wet with an 80% precipitation chance and a high near 69°F. Total rainfall for the Willamette Valley looks “beneficial and generally non-impactful,” per the National Weather Service — most valley locations should see less than a tenth of an inch.
Still, keep an eye on Friday and Saturday afternoons. The National Weather Service puts thunderstorm chances at 10–15% Friday and 15–25% Saturday — not high odds, but worth tracking if you have outdoor plans.
Best Window To Be Outside
Today, before 3 PM. After that, reach for a jacket. Friday and Saturday are mostly indoor days. Sunday through early next week looks drier and a bit warmer — the Rose City bounce-back we always count on.
Upcoming Events: Bring Rain Gear
Parker McCollum plays the outdoor Hayden Homes Amphitheater on Friday, June 26 — and yes, it’s going to be damp. A Parker McCollum t-shirt is a great base layer, but pack a rain shell over it. Also on Friday: Dance Gavin Dance at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom and Holly Humberstone at Roseland Theater — both indoor shows, both fine whatever the weather.
Looking further out to Tuesday, June 30: the 5 Seconds of Summer EVERYONE’S A STAR! World Tour rolls into Moda Center. Conditions look much improved by then. A 5 Seconds of Summer hoodie is a smart call for evening arena shows in Portland, and a 5 Seconds of Summer hat keeps things casual for the walk from the MAX.
What To Wear
Rain arrives tonight and sticks through Saturday. If you have kids, kids rain boots are a must for school tomorrow morning. Commuters can slip rain boot shoe covers over work shoes to keep things dry. And toss an anti-frizz hair serum in your bag — Portland humidity in a rainy stretch is a whole experience.
Tonight’s Dinner
A rainy Thursday evening calls for a big pot of pasta. Marinara, carbonara, or a creamy alfredo all hit perfectly while the front rolls through. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
- Friday: Showers, high near 69°F, southwest gusts up to 21 mph
- Saturday: Rain continues; 15–25% thunderstorm chance in the afternoon
- Sunday onward: The National Weather Service expects drier conditions and gradually warming temperatures into early next week
