Portland is in for a sunny, warm Friday with a high near 88°F under clear skies and light north wind around 1 to 5 mph — great weather to get outside early, though a marine push moves in this weekend and cools things back toward typical August numbers.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service Portland office says the upper-level ridge is finally starting to break down, but not before one more warm push today. Expect sunny skies, a high near 88°F, and an overnight low around 61°F under mostly clear conditions. Winds stay light out of the north at 1 to 5 mph, so it should feel calm from the Pearl District to Sellwood.
Best Window To Be Outside
Morning through early afternoon is your best bet before the day’s heat builds. Forest Park trails and the Willamette River waterfront are solid choices before around 1 PM. If you’re headed toward Providence Park or Moda Center this weekend, plan around the warmest stretch, roughly noon to 6 PM.
Marine Layer Returns This Weekend
Forecasters note a shortwave trough approaching the coast early Saturday will deepen the marine layer enough to push clouds up the Columbia River Valley and into the Portland metro Saturday morning. It should burn off with afternoon sun still warming things into the mid to upper 80s Saturday, before a more confident cooldown into the lower to mid 80s Sunday through early next week — closer to normal August temperatures. No rainfall is expected in the coming week, and NWS says onshore flow will keep wildfire smoke east of the Cascades, so air quality should stay clear around town.
What To Wear Or Bring
Sunscreen and a hat are musts with all this sun — a UPF 50+ Sun Hoodie is a smart, affordable pick for anyone spending hours outside along the river or in the Gorge. A dog splash pad is also an easy way to keep four-legged Portlanders comfortable in the afternoon warmth.
Local Games And Shows This Weekend
Tonight, Sarah McLachlan brings her Better Broken Tour to Hayden Homes Amphitheater, and Ali Wong performs at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, both under clear, mild evening skies. Saturday, Tedeschi Trucks Band plays Hayden Homes Amphitheater as part of their Future Soul 2026 Tour, while families catching Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at Keller Auditorium won’t need to worry about weather since it’s indoors. Grab tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub, and look for a Tedeschi Trucks Band t-shirt to remember the night. Sunday, the Portland Timbers host Club America at Providence Park — check Official team gear on Fanatics before kickoff.
Dinner Idea
With warm, dry evenings through the weekend, it’s a great stretch to fire up a portable propane grill on the patio. A simple pasta or stir-fry also works fine if you’d rather stay in the AC. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Look for one more warm day Saturday before temperatures ease into the lower to mid 80s Sunday through early next week, with dry, sunny conditions and no rain in the NWS forecast. For more outdoor gear ideas, check our outdoor gear deals page.
