Phoenix weather today brings sunny skies and a high near 92°F, with light east-northeast winds around 0 to 5 mph—perfect conditions for getting outside and enjoying our spring weather before things get breezy.

Tonight will be clear and pleasant, dropping to around 61°F with virtually no wind. If you’re planning an evening stroll through South Mountain Park or along the Arizona Canal, you couldn’t ask for better conditions. The calm air means it’ll feel comfortable even as the sun sets around 7:45 PM.

But here’s where things get interesting: Sunday is going to be noticeably windier. The National Weather Service is highlighting abnormally strong easterly winds developing Sunday morning as high pressure builds in from the Southern Plains. While gusts in the Phoenix metro area will mostly peak in the 20–30 mph range during the day, areas east of the city—especially the higher terrain toward Apache Junction and the Superstition Mountains—could see gusts pushing 40–50 mph. If you’re hiking Camelback Mountain or exploring the foothills, plan your outing for early morning before the wind picks up around mid-morning.

Sunday’s high will reach 95°F under partly sunny skies, making it about 5–10 degrees warmer than normal for mid-April. That’s getting close to early summer territory, so dust off your sunscreen and grab a good pair of sunglasses. If you’re heading to Chase Field for the Diamondbacks game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the wind could make for interesting conditions—bring a cap to keep secure, and consider packing a light layer for the air-conditioned stadium.

For allergy sufferers, the breezy conditions Sunday will kick up dust and pollen, especially in exposed areas. If you’re sensitive, consider wearing a pollen-blocking face mask during outdoor activities, and running a HEPA air purifier indoors can help keep your home’s air clean when you come back inside. An air quality monitor is also handy for tracking indoor pollution levels throughout the day.

Looking ahead: Conditions will calm down by Monday, but cooler temperatures and more frequent breezy periods are expected by mid-week as that upper-level low off the West Coast moves onshore. We’re still firmly in the pleasant spring window, so enjoy this weekend while we have it.

For dinner tonight, consider firing up the grill—Saturday evening is ideal for outdoor cooking with those calm winds and mild temperatures. A simple grilled pasta primavera or stir-fry with fresh vegetables pairs perfectly with this weather. Did you know you can order groceries on Amazon? Get everything you need for tonight’s dinner delivered straight to your door.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and check back Monday for an update on that mid-week pattern change.
