Phoenix is opening Saturday under blazing sunshine with a high near 104°F — seasonably hot, bone-dry, and completely clear from Camelback Mountain to South Mountain Park. If you plan around the heat, it’s actually a great weekend to be in the Valley.
The National Weather Service says a subtropical ridge anchored over northern Mexico is keeping Phoenix locked in clear, calm conditions. A trough passing over California has nudged upper-level heights down slightly, which is why we’re landing in the normal range (103–107°F) rather than the extreme zone. Winds are nearly nonexistent — 0 to 5 mph out of the south. Overnight lows drop only to about 77°F. Dry and warm, classic pre-monsoon June.
Best Window To Be Outside
Early morning is your golden hour. If Camelback or South Mountain is on your list, start no later than 6:30 AM and wrap up before 9 AM. Golfers can stretch that window to about 8 AM before the pavement turns punishing. After 10 AM, the concrete and asphalt downtown Phoenix radiates heat fast — plan accordingly. The good news: evenings near 77°F with zero wind make for genuinely pleasant patio time after sunset.
Heat Risk This Week — Read This Part
This weekend carries a Minor to Moderate Heat Risk across the lower deserts — serious, but manageable with smart habits. The bigger story is next week. The National Weather Service warns that strong high pressure will build back into the region by mid-week, pushing highs to around or just above 110°F by Wednesday or Thursday. Heat risk escalates to Moderate to locally Major. If you have outdoor projects, yard work, or errands, do them this weekend. Stay hydrated, check on elderly neighbors, and never leave kids or pets in a parked car.
Weekend Events: D-Backs, Mercury, and More
The Phoenix Mercury host the Seattle Storm tonight at Mortgage Matchup Center — an indoor arena, thankfully, so the 104°F heat is purely a parking-lot problem. Grab your tickets on SeatGeek and leave a few minutes early.
Sunday, June 21 brings the Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Minnesota Twins at Chase Field — and with temps near 105°F, that retractable roof will definitely be closed. Still, rep your team right: pick up an Arizona Diamondbacks jersey or an Arizona Diamondbacks fitted cap before first pitch. Find tickets on StubHub while seats are still available.
Also Sunday: Khalid’s It’s Always Summer Somewhere Tour plays the Arizona Financial Theatre on June 21 — an extremely on-brand tour name for a Phoenix summer show.
Grilling Tonight
Sunset patio temperatures near 77°F with no wind? That’s your sign to fire up the propane gas grill. Burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob all shine in this dry heat. Grab an instant-read meat thermometer so nothing gets over- or undercooked, and keep a grill brush and scraper set nearby for quick cleanup. Need to stock up? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Sunday: 105°F, sunny, clear overnight near 78°F — nearly identical to today. Monday: A transition day as the subtropical high shifts north; highs climb into the 105–109°F range and the first hints of Gulf moisture begin nudging dew points upward — early-season monsoon prep. Mid-week: Expect 110°F or above Wednesday through Friday. The National Weather Service is flagging widespread Moderate to localized Major Heat Risk for the latter half of the week. Plan now, not then.
