Orlando Weather Today: Storms Likely This Afternoon, Heat Index 106

Orlando is waking up to another steamy Sunday, with a high near 95°F, heat index values climbing to 106°F, and showers and thunderstorms likely after noon — so get outdoor plans done early and have an indoor backup ready by mid-afternoon.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service in Melbourne says deep tropical moisture is surging across east-central Florida this morning, and it’s fueling another Moderate to Major HeatRisk day before the sea breeze and storms arrive. Winds stay light out of the west at 5 to 10 mph, temperatures actually fall from 95° toward 90° in the afternoon as clouds build, and rain chances sit at 70% for the day. Tonight stays unsettled, with a low near 78° and a 60% chance of more storms before 10 PM.

Rain, Wind, Or Heat Risk

This is the headline: NWS forecasters are watching for locally heavy rain today, with 2 to 5 inches possible in spots, plus a few strong to severe storms capable of damaging wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph. The Weather Prediction Center has a Marginal Risk of excessive rainfall in play across east-central Florida, so isolated flash flooding is possible if storms train over the same neighborhoods. Heat is the other story — heat indices are flirting with Heat Advisory criteria (108-110°F) into early next week, so hydrate often and take shade breaks if you’re at the theme parks, on the golf course, or working outside.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning through around midday is your best stretch before storms fire, typically after noon. If you’ve got errands, a run, or a Disney or Universal park day planned, front-load it early. Save the pool or a Lake Eola stroll for the first half of the day, then plan to duck indoors as skies build up.

What To Wear Or Bring

With the heat index near 106°, pack lip balm SPF moisturizing for sun protection and grab men’s sport sandals or a quick dry swim trunks for pool time before the rain moves in. Between the humidity and afternoon storms, a ceiling fan smart remote helps keep the house comfortable once you’re back inside riding out the thunder.

Around Town This Week

Melanie Martinez brings her HADES: THE SACRIFICE tour to Kia Center on July 30, followed by Freestyle Explosion there July 31 — grab tickets on SeatGeek and a Melanie Martinez t-shirt if you’re headed downtown. Lord Huron plays Hard Rock Live Orlando on July 29. Looking further out, Orlando City SC hosts a home match at Inter&Co Stadium on August 1 — stock up on official team gear on Fanatics before kickoff.

Tonight’s Dinner

Too hot to cook tonight — a cold Thai noodle salad, a build-your-own wrap bar, or smoothie bowls all beat standing over a stove. A high-powered blender makes quick work of the smoothie bowls, and an insulated tumbler 30oz keeps drinks cold through the humidity. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Monday looks like a repeat: high near 93°, heat index up to 103°, and showers and thunderstorms likely again, with rain chances staying elevated into early next week as moisture holds over the area.
