Orlando is running hot and stormy today, with a high near 90°F, a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms, and heat indices climbing into the U90s to L100s — so if you’ve got outdoor plans, front-load them before early afternoon.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service Melbourne office says a weak frontal boundary near Central Florida, combined with deep tropical moisture, is fueling scattered to numerous storms today, with the greatest coverage building over the interior — think Orlando, Lake Nona, and the theme park corridor — into the afternoon and possibly early evening. Winds stay light out of the northeast at 5 to 10 mph, gusting to 20. Tonight’s low settles near 75 with a 30% storm chance before 8 PM ET, then skies turn mostly clear.

Best Window To Be Outside

Morning through midday is your best bet, before storms fire up over the interior. If you’re headed to Disney, Universal, or SeaWorld, front-load rides and outdoor attractions early and have an indoor backup for the early afternoon. Golfers and anyone mowing the lawn should also aim for sunrise hours.

Storm And Heat Risk

Forecasters are flagging frequent lightning, gusty winds of 35 to 45 mph in the strongest cells, and quick 1 to 2 inch rainfall totals, especially inland — enough for minor to nuisance flooding in spots that have already seen repeat rounds this week. Heat is the other headline: widespread Moderate to Major HeatRisk continues, so pace outdoor work and hydrate often.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light, breathable clothing and men’s sport sandals make sense for the heat, and talc free body powder helps if you’re sweating through a long park day. Keep drinks cold with an insulated tumbler 30oz, and since storms have knocked out power around the area recently, it’s worth keeping something like the DARAN 288Wh Power Station charged as backup.

Tonight At Kia Center

Joji brings his SOLARIS tour to Kia Center tonight, and with storms tapering by early evening, conditions should clear up nicely for the show. Grab tickets on SeatGeek or find tickets on StubHub, and gear up with a Joji t-shirt, Joji hoodie, or Joji hat — for more, see our Joji SOLARIS coverage. Looking ahead, the Orlando Pirates host the Green Bay Blizzard at Kia Center on July 5; official team gear on Fanatics is worth grabbing before then.

Dinner Idea

With heat like this, skip the stove — a cold Thai noodle salad or a build-your-own wrap bar keeps the kitchen cool, and a high-powered blender turns out a quick smoothie bowl for dessert. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Thursday looks similar, with a high near 91°F and storms redeveloping after 2 PM ET as northeast flow continues. The National Weather Service notes potentially higher-than-normal rain chances carrying into the Fourth of July weekend, so keep an eye on the forecast if you’re planning holiday cookouts or fireworks around town.
