Orlando wakes up to a mostly clear, calm Saturday, but sunshine quickly pushes the high near 97°F with heat index values climbing to 106—hot enough that the National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for all of east central Florida from 11 AM to 7 PM today.

Today’s Setup

High pressure keeps things quiet this morning after overnight storms lifted north out of South Florida. But persistent southerly flow is pulling in plenty of moisture, and NWS Melbourne expects a sea breeze collision over the interior late in the day to spark scattered storms after 2 PM, with a 40% chance areawide.

Best Window To Be Outside

Before 11 AM is your sweet spot—mostly clear skies, lighter heat, and wind out of the south southeast at 0 to 10 mph. Get yard work, dog walks, or errands done early. By midday, the combination of mid-90s heat and rising humidity makes the Heat Advisory window (11 AM–7 PM) the time to limit strenuous outdoor activity.

Rain, Wind, Or Heat Risk

Forecasters warn a few strong storms are likely late afternoon into evening, with frequent lightning, wind gusts up to 55 mph, and brief heavy downpours possible. Activity should linger well past sunset before diminishing overnight, when rain chances actually climb to 51%. If you hear thunder, get indoors—Florida leads the nation in lightning strikes for a reason.

What To Wear Or Bring

Light, loose, light-colored clothing, sunscreen, and water are non-negotiable today. Hitting the links before the advisory kicks in? Pack a waterproof golf rain suit and a golf tee assortment in case storms push your round earlier or later. Kids cooling off in the yard will love a slip and slide once the afternoon heat sets in.

Theme Parks & Around Town

Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld crowds should plan rope-drop through early afternoon, then head indoors, catch a parade, or duck into shaded queues once storms build after 2 PM. Same goes for Lake Eola and International Drive—enjoy the morning, then watch the radar.

If you’re downtown, Megan Moroney brings The Cloud 9 Tour to Kia Center on July 16. Grab tickets on SeatGeek now, and gear up with a Megan Moroney t-shirt or Megan Moroney hat before the show.

Beat the heat at the pool or lake with the 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge with Cooler, on sale for $24 right now—handy since afternoon storms make backyard downtime the safer bet.

Tonight’s Dinner

With sunshine dominating the first half of the day, it’s perfect grilling weather—fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob before storms arrive. An instant-read meat thermometer and a grill brush and scraper set make cleanup and doneness a breeze. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door, or stock up with Amazon Fresh groceries ahead of the afternoon storm window.

Next Few Days

Sunday looks nearly identical—sunny with a high near 96°F, storms after 2 PM, and a 41% rain chance. NWS Melbourne says the hot pattern holds into next week, with highs in the low to mid 90s and peak heat indices 105 to 109, meaning more Heat Advisories can’t be ruled out. Rain and storm chances keep climbing into early next week as moisture builds across the area.
