Orlando, FL is starting Friday, June 12 with plenty of sunshine and a high near 92°F — but plan your day around afternoon thunderstorms, which the National Weather Service says are likely after 2 PM ET. Theme park visitors and tonight’s concert-goers should make the most of morning hours before the heat index climbs to 100-107°F.

Today’s Setup

The classic Central Florida sea breeze collision is on tap again today. NWS forecasters expect east and west coast breezes to converge over the interior around 5 PM ET, driving storm coverage to 60-70%. Slow-moving cells could linger and drop locally heavy rain — up to a tenth to a quarter inch during the afternoon. The Weather Prediction Center has flagged a Marginal Risk of excessive rainfall for Central and Southwest Florida, so expect possible standing water near the I-4 corridor and around Disney World, Universal, and SeaWorld. Storms tonight carry a 70% chance before 11 PM ET, with up to a half inch of rain possible.

Best Window To Be Outside

8 AM to 1 PM ET is your golden window. After that, storm chances ramp quickly and the heat index pushes past 100°F. Finish yard work, golf rounds, or morning runs early. Theme park visitors: front-load your outdoor rides and plan to be under cover or indoors by early afternoon.

Storm And Heat Risk

The National Weather Service is carrying a Moderate to locally Major HeatRisk across Central Florida today. Stay hydrated, seek shade, and take regular A/C breaks. An insulated tumbler 30oz keeps your water ice-cold through the worst of the afternoon heat. A UV protection sun hat is a must for anyone spending time outside between now and sunset.

Storms that fire up this afternoon could pack gusty winds of 40-50 mph and frequent lightning — the main threats per NWS forecasters. If you’re heading out this evening, tossing rain pants waterproof in the car could save the night.

Concert Night At Kia Center

Tonight is packed. Noah Kahan brings The Great Divide Tour to Kia Center — storms should taper after 11 PM ET, but expect a wet arrival window if you’re heading out around showtime. Rep the show with a Noah Kahan t-shirt or Noah Kahan hoodie, and Find tickets on StubHub if you’re still looking. Also tonight, Mariah The Scientist & A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie take the stage at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.

Looking ahead: A$AP Rocky hits Kia Center on June 14, Killswitch Engage rocks Hard Rock Live Orlando on June 16, and the 5 Seconds of Summer: EVERYONE’S A STAR! World Tour lands at Kia Center on June 17. Get tickets on SeatGeek before they’re gone.

Dinner And The Days Ahead

Skip the oven tonight — it’s too hot to cook. Smoothie bowls, cold Thai noodle salad, or a build-your-own wrap bar are perfect calls. A high-powered blender makes frozen smoothie bowls effortless. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Saturday heats up further to 94°F with a heat index as high as 102°F — afternoon storm chances ease to 40% but the same post-2 PM ET timing applies. The NWS expects higher storm coverage to persist into next week with continued dangerous heat. Stay current with the Orlando weather forecast and check outdoor gear deals before heading out this weekend.
