New York City is starting the week with brilliant sunshine and a high near 78°F — a genuine gem of a Monday that begs you to step outside and enjoy it.
Today’s Setup
Following a cold frontal passage early this morning, the National Weather Service has us in dry, seasonable air through at least Tuesday. The northwest wind is the day’s only asterisk: expect gusts up to 24 mph through early afternoon, particularly along the Hudson River waterfront and in exposed stretches of the outer boroughs. The NWS notes that downslope warming from the northwest flow could push temps into the lower 80s along the south-shore coastline. By midday those gusts ease and the afternoon settles into something truly comfortable. Rain chance today: just 4%.
Best Time to Be Outside
Basically all day — but the window from noon to 6 PM ET will feel the most comfortable once winds dial back. Central Park, the High Line, and Riverside Park are all in excellent shape. This is textbook golf weather: dry fairways, mid-70s temps, zero rain threat. If you’ve been holding off on a round all spring, today is your day.
Yankees Series at Yankee Stadium
The New York Yankees host the Chicago White Sox in a three-game series beginning Tuesday, June 16, through Thursday, June 18, at Yankee Stadium. Tuesday’s forecast looks nearly as nice as today — sunny and 75°F with light westerly winds — making tailgating conditions outside the Stadium outstanding. Show up in style with a New York Yankees jersey or a New York Yankees fitted cap, and Get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need seats for any game in the series.
Also on Tuesday evening: Hamilton runs at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Mild, clear skies make it a lovely night for a Broadway show.
Rain and Coastal Flood Risk This Week
Wednesday is where caution kicks in. The National Weather Service is tracking a robust low pressure system that may bring another round of severe thunderstorms to the area later this week, with Wednesday already showing a 31% chance of showers and thunderstorms as a first signal. Timing is still coming into focus — check back Wednesday morning before committing to outdoor plans.
Coastal residents near the south shore of Nassau County and portions of Lower New York Harbor should also note that water levels could approach minor coastal flood benchmarks during nighttime high tide cycles through midweek, driven by elevated astronomical tides from the recent new moon. No action needed for most New Yorkers, but worth watching if you’re near the water.
Tonight’s Dinner: Fire Up the Grill
Clear skies, a low around 60°F, and a light northwest breeze — this evening is practically begging you to grill. Fire up a propane gas grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. Keep your grates clean with a grill brush and scraper set, and nail doneness every time with an instant-read meat thermometer. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
