Minneapolis wakes up to patchy fog this morning before skies clear into a sunny, comfortable 84°F Saturday — the kind of first-of-August day that makes the whole Twin Cities head outside. If you’ve got errands or a morning run planned, give the fog until shortly after daybreak to burn off before you hit trails along the Mississippi River or Lake Harriet.

Today’s Setup

Forecasters at the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen say the upper-level low that dropped heavy rain on Friday is finally pulling away toward the Ohio Valley, but light winds and leftover moisture are keeping patchy — at times dense — fog across the metro through daybreak. Once that lifts, expect mostly sunny skies, a high near 84°F, and a light north wind around 5 to 10 mph. Humidity is dropping too, so today should feel noticeably more comfortable than earlier this week. The NWS also notes some haze on the horizon from wildfire smoke aloft, but it shouldn’t be noticeable at ground level.

Best Window To Be Outside

With fog gone by mid-morning and only a 2% rain chance, basically all of daylight hours are fair game today. Minnehaha Falls, the Stone Arch Bridge, and Bde Maka Ska (Lake Calhoun) are all good bets for a walk or bike ride. Tonight stays mostly clear with a low around 62°F and a light northeast breeze — great weather for a patio dinner or catching Vikings training camp at the TCO Performance Center in Eagan.

Rain, Wind, Or Heat Risk

No severe weather is expected locally, and there’s no Storm Prediction Center outlook for our area today. The Weather Prediction Center’s slight risk of excessive rainfall is centered well south and east over Illinois and Indiana, not the Twin Cities. Sunday looks just as calm: sunny, high near 82°F, wind ENE around 5 mph. The NWS is watching for the next storm chances to move in Monday evening into Tuesday, so enjoy the dry stretch while it lasts.

What To Wear Or Bring

A light layer for the fog-cooled morning, then short sleeves once the sun takes over. Anglers and boaters heading to the lakes should grab a UPF 50+ Sun Hoodie for Just $5 — good timing with fishing season still in full swing — and pack mosquito repellent spray for shaded trails near the river.

Weekend Events & Game Day

Minnesota United FC hosts San Diego FC at Allianz Field on Sunday, August 2 — with sunny skies and a high near 82°F, it’s about as good as tailgating weather gets. Grab a Minnesota United FC jersey or Minnesota United FC scarf before kickoff, and get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need seats. Looking a few days out, Noah Kahan plays Target Field on Wednesday, August 5 — a Noah Kahan t-shirt is worth grabbing before that one.

Dinner Idea

With dry, grill-friendly weather holding through the weekend, tonight’s a good night to try the $10 smoked tri-tip hack instead of the usual burgers. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Sunday holds the sunny, low-humidity pattern with a high near 82°F and light east-northeast wind. Clouds and rain chances build back in Monday evening into Tuesday as the NWS tracks the next system, so it’s a good idea to wrap up outdoor plans while the sunshine lasts.

Upcoming Home Games

Plan around the forecast — grab tickets, gear up, and see kickoff conditions.
