Minneapolis–St. Paul is kicking off Saturday, May 16, with sunny skies and a high near 82°F — one of the best spring days of the season, so get outside before Sunday’s storms arrive.
Today’s Setup
Clear skies, low humidity, and west-northwest winds at 5 to 15 mph make for a comfortable afternoon across the metro. The National Weather Service forecasts sunshine all day with virtually no rain chance. Overnight lows will settle near 57°F — comfortable enough to sleep with the windows open.
Best Window To Be Outside
Today is a full green light. Head to Minnehaha Park, paddle the Chain of Lakes, or find a sunny patch in one of the metro’s 10,000-lakes neighborhoods. If you’re heading to the water, check out these UPF 50+ fishing shirts at $6.50 — excellent sun protection for a long day outside. One note for allergy sufferers: dry westerly winds will push pollen counts up today, so keep an allergy relief nasal spray on hand before heading out.
The Minnesota Twins host the Milwaukee Brewers at Target Field today in near-perfect baseball weather — sunny, low 80s, and a light breeze. Rep your Minnesota Twins jersey or Minnesota Twins fitted cap and soak it in. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need seats.
Tonight, the Charlie Puth: Whatever’s Clever! World Tour plays the Armory on Saturday, May 16. By showtime, temps dip into the low 60s — bring a Charlie Puth hoodie. Find tickets on StubHub if you need them. The Harry Potter and the Cursed Child touring production is also running at the Orpheum Theatre tonight — both are indoor venues, so no weather worries there.
Storm Risk: Sunday Evening Is the Watch Window
Sunday flips the script. Rain showers are likely starting around 7 AM CT, with a 60% chance of precipitation through the day and totals of 0.5 to 0.75 inches possible. The National Weather Service warns that Sunday evening is the highest-risk window — damaging wind gusts are the primary hazard with the strongest thunderstorms, and east-southeast winds could gust to 30 mph even outside of storms. Large hail is possible across parts of southwest Minnesota earlier in the evening, and a few tornadoes cannot be ruled out in that region.
The Twins host the Brewers again Sunday at Target Field — monitor conditions closely, as storms are expected to impact downtown through the evening.
What To Pack
