Minneapolis is kicking off the week with sunny skies and a high near 80°F today — one of the cleanest weather days we’ve seen this June. Make the most of it, because a significant storm system moves in Tuesday with a 90% chance of rain and thunderstorms.
Today’s Setup
High pressure is building in from the north, per the National Weather Service Twin Cities office. Skies are clear, winds are negligible at 0 to 5 mph out of the northeast, and temperatures climb to near 80°F — right around average for late June. Tonight stays comfortable, dipping to around 60°F under partly cloudy skies with a light easterly breeze. No rain in the picture today.
Best Window To Be Outside
The whole day is yours. Golfers, the courses from Braemar to Purgatory Creek are calling — grab a golf bag stand lightweight and throw in a golf ball gift set Titleist for the round. The Chain of Lakes, Minnehaha Falls, and Bde Maka Ska will all be gorgeous. If you’ve been waiting to set up the backyard, this is your night — string up those outdoor string lights and enjoy the warm evening. The 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge with Cooler is just $24 right now if you want to take one of our 10,000 lakes seriously this week.
Twins vs. Dodgers: Two Very Different Games
The Minnesota Twins host the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight at Target Field under perfect ballgame conditions — clear, mild, and calm. Throw on your Minnesota Twins jersey or Minnesota Twins fitted cap and enjoy it. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need them.
Tuesday night’s Twins-Dodgers Night Light game (June 23) is a different story. Rain showers are likely by 9 AM CT, with thunderstorms pushing in by the early afternoon and continuing through the night — the National Weather Service puts chances at 90% daytime and 93% overnight. Plan for delays or bring a rain poncho. Find tickets on StubHub if you want flexibility in case the game shifts.
Tuesday Storm Risk
A low-pressure system tracking southeast from Saskatchewan will drag a cold front through Tuesday. NWS forecasts a high near 78°F with temperatures falling to around 74°F as storms arrive mid-afternoon. Total rainfall of a quarter to half inch is possible Tuesday night alone — this looks more like a heavy rain event than a severe storm situation, but some storms could produce small hail. Wrap up any outdoor projects by late morning Tuesday.
The Dave Matthews Band plays Mystic Lake Amphitheater on Tuesday night — an outdoor venue with a very stormy forecast. Check show updates and plan for rain gear.
Tonight, the MGK: Lost Americana Tour takes the Mystic Lake Amphitheater stage under great skies — partly cloudy and near 65°F by showtime.
Dinner Tonight
Tonight is textbook grilling weather. Fire up the propane gas grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. An instant-read meat thermometer takes the guesswork out of doneness, and a grill brush and scraper set keeps your grates clean heading into storm season. Need to stock up? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Tuesday brings likely storms — keep outdoor plans indoors. Wednesday: lingering shower and storm chances, especially north of I-94. Drier, cooler air settles in mid-week, then warmth and humidity return next week per NWS forecasters. Check outdoor gear deals as you plan your weekend.
