Miami is baking today under sunny skies, a high near 90°F, and a heat index climbing as high as 105 — the National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect, so plan on keeping any long outdoor stretches to the early morning or evening hours.

Today’s Setup

A wave of Saharan dust is spreading over South Florida this morning, and forecasters at NWS Miami say that dry, hot air will keep rain chances practically nonexistent (just 7% today) while helping push near-record heat down to the surface. Southeast wind stays light at 8 to 13 mph. Tonight stays mostly clear with a low around 85 and a heat index still near 102, so even after sunset it won’t feel like much relief.

Best Window To Be Outside

With the Saharan Air Layer suppressing storms, your safest window is before 10 AM or after the sun dips low in the evening — midday and early afternoon are when heat index values peak toward 105. If you’re headed to the beach or a pool to cool off, quick dry swim trunks and sun protection are worth packing.

Heat, Wind & Storm Risk Ahead

NWS Miami’s key message this morning is blunt: heat indices between 105 and 110 are expected the next few days, with little to no rain today or Thursday. That dry stretch also means lawns, mulch, and dry brush can dry out fast, so it’s smart to keep a fire extinguisher home handy, especially if you’re grilling outside this week. The pattern flips by Friday, when scattered to numerous storms return — some potentially strong — continuing into Saturday, and forecasters note even higher heat indices are possible late this weekend into early next week.

Miami’s Big Week: Marlins, World Cup & Concerts

The Miami Marlins host the Seattle Mariners tonight, July 8, at loanDepot park, with the series continuing July 9 before the Cleveland Guardians come to town July 10-11 — grab a Miami Marlins jersey and Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub before first pitch. Also tonight, TRAIN’s Drops of Jupiter tour hits the outdoor iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre — see our full weather breakdown for the show and bring water for the heat. Looking ahead, Hard Rock Stadium hosts the World Cup Quarterfinal between Norway and England on July 11, Chicago & Styx play iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre July 13 (check our weather outlook for that show), and J. Cole brings The Fall-Off Tour to the indoor Kaseya Center July 14.

What To Wear & Bring

Sunscreen and water are non-negotiable this week. A battery backup phone charger is smart for long days at the ballpark or beach, and a portable bluetooth speaker makes tailgating in the loanDepot park lots more fun while you wait out the heat in the shade.

Dinner Tonight

It’s too hot to turn on the stove — a cold Thai noodle salad or a smoothie bowl made with a high-powered blender is the move tonight. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.

Next Few Days

Thursday stays sunny with a high near 91°F and a heat index up to 106 — another heat advisory is likely. Friday cools only slightly to near 90°F, but rain chances jump to 22% as scattered to numerous storms, some strong, move in Friday and Saturday. NWS Miami warns even higher heat indices are possible late this weekend into early next week, so stay tuned as the pattern shifts.
