Miami is waking up to partly sunny skies on Friday, May 22, with a high near 86°F — but if you’re planning a beach day, there’s an important safety alert to know before you go. Check the Miami weather forecast for daily updates all weekend.

Today’s Setup

East winds around 13 mph will feel pleasant under a mix of sun and clouds, but the National Weather Service warns heat indices will climb into the upper 90s to near 100°F by afternoon. The good news: dry air aloft is keeping storm chances near zero today — just 5% — so outdoor plans across Coconut Grove, Brickell, and Wynwood look solid through the evening. Temperatures settle around 82°F overnight.

Beach Warning: High Rip Current Risk

This is today’s biggest story. The National Weather Service has issued a high risk of rip currents for Atlantic beaches through this evening — that includes South Beach, Haulover Beach, and Sunny Isles. If you’re caught in a rip current, don’t fight it: swim parallel to shore until the pull weakens, then angle back to the beach. Keep children and weaker swimmers out of the surf entirely today.

Weekend Rain and Storm Chances

Saturday brings a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms — about 20% during the day, climbing to 30% Saturday night with wind gusts up to 18 mph. NWS forecasters note any storms should be brief and sub-severe, though some spots could pick up a half-inch to an inch of rain. Sunday holds a similar pattern near 86°F.

Gameday and Event Weather

The Miami Marlins host the New York Mets at loanDepot park all three days — Friday May 22, Saturday May 23, and Sunday May 24. Saturday carries the highest rain risk of the series, so come prepared. Grab a Miami Marlins fitted cap to block the afternoon sun and a Miami Marlins jersey to rep the home team right. Get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need seats for any of the three games.

Sunday afternoon also brings Inter Miami CF vs. Philadelphia Union at Nu Stadium — warm and partly cloudy with that same 20-30% storm window, so a light rain layer wouldn’t hurt.

Tonight, the Reggae Fest Presents Alkaline takes over Kaseya Center — fully indoors, no weather worries. Find tickets on StubHub for last-minute access. Saturday night, Carlos Vives - Tour Al Sol plays Kaseya Center — a perfect indoor escape if the evening storms roll through.

Allergy Alert

South Florida’s humidity and lush vegetation keep pollen and mold counts elevated in late May. If you’re feeling it, run a HEPA air purifier at home and keep an allergy relief nasal spray on hand before heading out into the afternoon heat.

Next Few Days

Expect this pattern — highs near 86°F, east winds around 13 mph, and afternoon storm chances in the 20-30% range — to hold into early next week. Heat indices will stay near 100°F each afternoon, so hydrate early and often.

For tonight’s dinner, a light pasta or fresh stir-fry is ideal when you don’t want to heat up the kitchen on a warm May evening. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered before dinnertime. And if you’re hitting the water or trails this weekend, our outdoor gear deals are worth a scroll — including UPF 50+ Fishing Shirts for $6.50 that’ll keep the Miami sun off your skin all day.
