Los Angeles is heating up fast today, with sunny skies and a high near 93°F that the National Weather Service says kicks off the hottest stretch of the next seven days — plan strenuous outdoor plans for the morning and lean on shade, water, and sunscreen once the afternoon sun takes over.
Today’s Setup
According to the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard office, a very large upper-level high pressure system centered over the Texas panhandle is slowly sliding toward the Four Corners region through Friday and Saturday, and it’s pumping heights well above normal for late July. That translates to today’s high near 93°F with virtually no rain chance (2%) and southwest wind at just 0 to 10 mph. Forecasters note the heat is Thursday through Sunday will run the warmest of the week, and it’ll feel muggier than typical thanks to warmer-than-normal sea surface temps and weak monsoon moisture layering extra humidity on top of the heat.
Best Window To Be Outside
Mornings are your friend right now. Get to Griffith Park or Runyon Canyon before 9 a.m. while temps are still comfortable, or hit the sand at Santa Monica or Venice early. Calm winds (0-10 mph) make this a great stretch for golf tee times before the midday warmth builds — book early and hydrate well.
Heat, Wind, and What To Watch
No severe weather or flash flood risk is in play for the LA area right now — the Storm Prediction Center has nothing posted, and the Weather Prediction Center’s excessive rainfall concerns are focused on the Southeast, not us. The AFD does flag gusty north (offshore) winds each morning turning weakly onshore in the afternoon through Friday, a pattern worth keeping an eye on as we roll deeper into wildfire season. If you’re doing yard work or brush clearing near canyon edges, having a garden hose 100ft on hand is smart insurance.
What To Wear Or Bring
Swap heavier fabrics for a lightweight linen shirt or ventilated workout shorts men to stay cool through the afternoon, and pack mosquito repellent spray for evening patio time once the sun drops. If you’re heading to the water, this is a good week to grab the 2-person Intex floating lounge with cooler deal for pool or lake days.
Games, Concerts, and Weekend Plans
LAFC hosts Sporting Kansas City on July 26 at BMO Stadium — with warm, dry evening conditions expected, it’s a solid outdoor tailgate night; grab tickets on SeatGeek or find tickets on StubHub and gear up with an LAFC jersey or LAFC scarf. Music fans have options too: The Fray plays YouTube Theater Friday, July 24, and El Coyote & Chuy Lizarraga bring the Capibaras Tour to Honda Center Saturday, July 25 — pick up an El Coyote t-shirt if you’re going.
Dinner Tonight
With clear skies and light wind, tonight is close to perfect grilling weather — fire up the grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob, and check our tri-tip smoking guide for a shortcut to brisket-style flavor. An instant-read meat thermometer and grill brush and scraper set will make it easier. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Friday holds steady near 94°F with mostly sunny skies and 0% rain chance, followed by a low around 70 Friday night. Saturday may bring a degree or two of cooling, but forecasters say it will barely be noticeable — heat sticks around through the weekend before any real relief shows up.
