Los Angeles sees a mostly cloudy Thursday with a high near 68°F and a slight chance of rain showers arriving after 5 PM — get outside this morning while skies are still partly cooperative.
Today’s Setup
The Los Angeles weather forecast is running 4 to 6 degrees below normal for late May, courtesy of an unusual upper low pressure system the National Weather Service says will track through the region today. Whether you’re in Silver Lake, the San Fernando Valley, or down in Santa Monica, expect overcast skies and south-southwest winds between 0 and 10 mph with gusts near 20 mph, especially along the coast. The NWS notes that any rainfall reaching LA — south of Point Conception — should be a tenth of an inch or less if it arrives at all.
Best Window To Be Outside
Morning through early afternoon is your sweet spot. Griffith Park trails and Runyon Canyon will be walkable under gray but dry skies. Rain showers become a slight possibility after 5 PM (around 20% chance), so wrap up outdoor plans before then. Tuck a compact umbrella in your bag if you’re heading out past 4 PM.
Allergy Heads-Up
Don’t let the clouds fool you — breezy spring days still move pollen around, especially through foothill neighborhoods like Pasadena and Glendale. Keep an allergy relief nasal spray handy before heading out, and run a HEPA air purifier indoors tonight to clear the air as the system passes through.
What To Wear
Layer up. A 68°F high with marine air and coastal gusts will feel noticeably cooler near the beaches and hillside parks. A light hoodie or denim jacket is the right call. Skip the heavy rain gear for most of the day, but have something ready if you’re out after the evening commute.
Weekend Events — And Great Weather Ahead
Friday clears out beautifully — sunny skies and a high near 71°F, just in time for the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Philadelphia Phillies at Dodger Stadium on May 29. It’s also Alex Vesia Bobblehead night, making it one of the better games to be at in person. Temperatures will be comfortable, and there’s virtually no rain chance. Deck out in a Los Angeles Dodgers jersey or a Los Angeles Dodgers fitted cap — and if you still need seats, Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub before they’re gone.
The warming trend rolls right into Saturday for Pitbull at the Hollywood Bowl on May 30 with special guest Lil Jon — dry, comfortable evening conditions for an outdoor show. Snag a Pitbull t-shirt to wear. Also on Saturday, Mexico v Australia at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena should enjoy clear skies as well. With outdoor gear deals calling your name and that sunny weekend stretch ahead, it’s also a great time to check out the Callaway Big Bertha 23 Fairway Wood deal if a round of golf is on your weekend list.
Tonight’s Dinner
A cool, slightly drizzly evening calls for something warm and easy — pasta or a quick veggie stir-fry fits perfectly. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered straight to your door without braving the rain.
Next Few Days
Friday turns sunny with a high near 71°F as the upper low exits. The National Weather Service says a warming trend is on track through the weekend and into next week — the late May heat LA’s been waiting for is finally arriving right on schedule.
