Los Angeles is waking up Monday under a layer of coastal clouds, but those clear by mid-morning to reveal a mostly sunny 76°F afternoon — and the warmest week in recent memory is just getting started.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service says marine layer stratus covers coastal and valley communities this morning but should dissipate earlier than usual as pressure gradients shift offshore. That same offshore push is sparking Santa Ana conditions through the passes and canyons — think Cajon Pass and the Sepulveda Pass corridor — with gusty NE winds expected through mid-morning. Advisory-level gusts are confined to the mountains, but Burbank, the San Fernando Valley, and foothill neighborhoods should note elevated fire danger during these dry, breezy stretches. By afternoon, a pleasant southerly flow at 5 to 10 mph takes over and conditions settle nicely.
Fire & Wind Risk
Santa Ana conditions raise fire risk in foothills and canyon communities this morning. No Red Flag Warning has been issued for the valleys and coast, but it’s a smart reminder to check that your home has a working smoke detector combo pack installed — especially with dry air and gusty canyon winds in the mix.
Allergy Alert
Warm, dry offshore winds are an efficient pollen delivery system. Griffith Park and Runyon Canyon hikers with allergies should dose up before heading out. If you have little ones in tow, kids allergy chewables Zyrtec are worth tossing in the backpack for the trail.
Best Window To Be Outside
Late morning through early evening is prime today — and all week. Once the marine layer burns off the coast (Santa Monica, Venice, Long Beach), skies open up beautifully. Golfers, hikers, and beach-goers are in for a treat. With sustained sunny days ahead, it’s also a great time to stock up on sun protection — our UPF 50+ Fishing Shirts for $6.50 deal is hard to beat for the price.
Events This Week
The Los Angeles Angels host the Athletics in a three-game series May 19–21 at Angel Stadium. Tuesday’s high near 80°F and light SE winds make for ideal tailgating weather — one of the nicest stretches of the season to catch a night game in Anaheim. Grab a Los Angeles Angels jersey or a Los Angeles Angels fitted cap before the first pitch, and Get tickets on SeatGeek if you still need seats.
Tuesday evening, the Florence + The Machine - Everybody Scream Tour takes the stage at the Kia Forum in Inglewood. Expect temps in the upper 50s by showtime — comfortable inside the arena, but a Florence + The Machine hoodie is the perfect layer if you’re hanging outside before the show. Find tickets on StubHub and consider a Florence + The Machine t-shirt as a souvenir.
Next Few Days
Tuesday warms to near 80°F — valleys and inland areas will feel it more than the coast. Wednesday is the peak of the warm spell, with the National Weather Service forecasting lower 80s at the coast and mid-to-upper 80s in the valleys. After Wednesday, a gradual cooldown begins Thursday, with night and morning low clouds and fog returning through the weekend.
