Los Angeles is looking at a mild, mostly cloudy morning burning off into partly sunny skies today, Friday, July 3, with a high near 79°F and zero chance of rain — a great day to get outside before the holiday weekend crowds hit the beaches and stadiums.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service says onshore flow has been weaker than the models expected, which trimmed back this morning’s marine layer clouds over the coast and valleys and let temperatures run a touch warmer than Thursday. Expect a low around 59 overnight clearing into a partly sunny afternoon near 79°F, with light south winds around 0 to 10 mph — barely enough to notice from Griffith Park to the coast.

Best Window To Be Outside

With the clouds clearing out earlier than usual, late morning through mid-afternoon is your best stretch for hiking Runyon Canyon or Griffith Park before any evening marine layer clouds creep back in around sunset. Because incoming high clouds are forecast to spread over Southern California this weekend, don’t expect much day-to-day temperature swing — a good sign if you’re planning cookouts or lounging at the beach both Friday and Saturday.

Wind, Fire & Rain Risk

No rain is in the forecast, and there’s no severe weather outlook for the LA area today. The Weather Prediction Center’s excessive rainfall concern is entirely over the Midwest, nowhere near Southern California. The one thing to watch: gusty afternoon winds over the Antelope Valley, though forecasters don’t expect them to reach advisory levels outside a few isolated foothill spots.

Gameday, Events & What To Bring

It’s a packed few days on the local sports and events calendar. Tonight, the Los Angeles Dodgers host the San Diego Padres at Dodger Stadium, and Angel City FC takes on Orlando Pride at BMO Stadium — both under clear, mild evening skies perfect for a night out. If you’d rather catch a show, The Phantom of the Opera is playing the Hollywood Pantages Theatre tonight. For Independence Day itself, the Los Angeles Angels host the Boston Red Sox at Angel Stadium and the Dodgers face the Padres again at Dodger Stadium, both under a mostly cloudy sky near 79°F — solid tailgating weather with light wind. Grab a Los Angeles Angels jersey or Los Angeles Angels fitted cap if you’re headed to Anaheim, and check tickets on SeatGeek or tickets on StubHub before gates open. Downtown, the America250 concert at LA Memorial Coliseum on July 4 is another big draw — look for an America250 t-shirt or America250 hat to mark the occasion. For the beach or backyard, pack a hard cooler 52 quart, mosquito repellent spray, and if you’re setting up a patio party, a TIKI Brand 65-inch metal garden torch and some 4th of July decorations round things out nicely. If you’re headed to the water this weekend, the 2-Person Intex Floating Lounge with Cooler is worth a look at just $24.

Next Few Days

Expect similar mostly cloudy mornings clearing to near-79°F afternoons through the weekend, with temperatures trending warmer into early next week as heights rise — the National Weather Service expects a return to near-normal readings, with 80s and even low 90s possible in valley locations by midweek.

For dinner tonight, a simple pasta or stir-fry works well with the mild evening temps — nothing too heavy needed with highs holding in the high 70s. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
