Houston is waking up to patchy fog this Thursday morning, but it clears to mostly sunny skies and a high near 88°F — get outside once that haze lifts and make the most of one of the nicer days in the forecast. If you’re commuting early through low-lying areas like Pearland, Missouri City, or along the bayou corridors, expect reduced visibility before 9 AM CT. After that, smooth sailing.

Today’s Setup

The National Weather Service says a shortwave trough is filling to the northeast, dropping rain chances to just 11% today — and any stray showers stay mostly east of I-45. North winds hold at a calm 0 to 5 mph, barely enough to move a flag at NRG Stadium. That northerly flow keeps humidity slightly in check through the afternoon, a small blessing for Houston in late May. Tonight turns partly cloudy with a low around 73°F and a south wind returning at 5 mph.

Best Window To Be Outside

Once the fog clears by 9 AM CT, you’ve got a wide-open afternoon. Golfers, this setup is hard to beat — low wind, warm sun, near-zero rain threat. A walk along Buffalo Bayou or through Memorial Park in the late morning is also a solid call before temps peak. Heads up on allergies though: the combo of overnight moisture and warming temps means mold and pollen counts are elevated this morning. Running a HEPA air purifier indoors while the fog lingers can help before you head out.

Rain, Wind, or Heat Risk

No severe weather threat in the Houston metro today. The Storm Prediction Center has no active outlook for our area. The Weather Prediction Center does flag a marginal risk of excessive rainfall across parts of the Southeast today, but that activity sits well east and north of us. The bigger story is heat — highs climb to near 90°F Friday and Saturday, so stay hydrated on outdoor outings.

Weekend Events & Gameday Outlook

Saturday’s Houston Astros vs. Milwaukee Brewers at Daikin Park on May 30 looks like a great outdoor ballgame: mostly sunny, near 90°F, light winds. Tailgating should be comfortable in the shade. Rep the home team with a Houston Astros jersey or a Houston Astros fitted cap. Grab seats via Get tickets on SeatGeek before they’re gone.

Also Saturday at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Godsmack brings the Rise of Rock World Tour 2026 on May 30 — an outdoor amphitheater show under warm evening skies. Pack a soft cooler backpack for drinks, and a Godsmack t-shirt is the right call for the lawn. Tonight, the The Kid LAROI - A Perfect World Tour plays Bayou Music Center — indoor, so fog won’t be a factor.

Next Few Days

Friday and Saturday stay warm and mostly sunny with highs near 90°F and very low rain chances. Enjoy the dry stretch — the National Weather Service flags increasing rain chances by Sunday into next week as the ridge weakens. Keep an eye on the Houston weather forecast as that pattern develops. If you’re heading outdoors this weekend, check out outdoor gear deals including UPF 50+ fishing shirts for $6.50 for solid sun protection.

For tonight’s dinner, a simple pasta or stir-fry fits the warm, low-key evening perfectly. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered straight to your door.
