Forecasters at the Houston/Galveston NWS office say a mid-level heat dome currently parked near the TX/OK/CO/NM corner is sliding east into North Texas, dragging our temperatures up with it. Expect a high near 99°F Tuesday (heat index up to 107°F) and near 100°F Wednesday. A Heat Advisory wasn’t issued for today, but the office says indices near or above the 108°F advisory threshold are likely Tuesday and beyond, so don’t be surprised if one gets posted later this week.

Southwest wind stays light at 5 mph, skies are mostly sunny, and tonight only cools to a muggy 79°F with a heat index still around 102°F. Dew points are running low-to-mid 70s closer to the coast and Galveston Bay, upper 60s to low 70s inland around Memorial Park and the Energy Corridor — either way, it’s sticky.
Best Window To Be Outside
Get outside before 10 AM CT if you’re walking the dog around Hermann Park or Buffalo Bayou, mowing the lawn, or heading out for an early fish. The NWS also flags patchy fog possible in the early-to-mid morning hours over the next few days, so give yourself extra time on the commute. After that window, the heat index climbs fast — save strenuous outdoor work for after 7 PM CT.
Heat Risk This Week
No severe storms or flash-flood signals are in play for Houston right now — the Weather Prediction Center’s excessive rainfall outlook doesn’t include our area today. The real hazard is heat exhaustion: hydrate constantly, take shade breaks, and check on elderly neighbors and pets. A dog splash pad in the backyard is a lifesaver for four-legged family members who can’t tell you when they’re overheating.
What To Wear Or Bring
Lean into breathable, water-friendly gear: quick dry swim trunks or a women’s swimsuit for anyone near a pool or Kemah-area splash spot, and men’s sport sandals for anything involving pavement.
