Houston is waking up to patchy fog this Friday morning, but once it lifts by around 10 AM CT, expect a mostly sunny and warm day with a high near 90°F — one of the nicest stretches we’ll see before a wetter pattern moves in next week. Check the full Houston weather forecast for the week ahead.
Today’s Setup
The National Weather Service says fog will be spotty between 7 AM and 10 AM CT, most notable in outlying areas beyond the 610 Loop. Drivers on I-45 and US-290 should give extra following distance during the early commute. Once the fog clears, south winds of 5 to 15 mph — with gusts up to 25 mph — take over, and temperatures climb to near 90°F before easing back to around 87°F by mid-afternoon. Overnight lows stay warm at 74°F with a breezy southerly flow continuing.
Best Window To Be Outside
Your sweet spot is late morning through early afternoon, roughly 10 AM to 1 PM CT, after the fog clears and before peak heat. Golfers at Memorial Park Golf Course should aim for that window. It’s also a solid morning for fishing along Galveston Bay or the San Jacinto River before the south wind picks up. Heading outdoors? Sun protection matters — a UV protection sun hat is worth tossing in the bag, and our roundup of outdoor gear deals has you covered, including the UPF 50+ Fishing Shirts for $6.50 that’s been trending this week.
Rain, Wind, or Heat Risk
No rain today — the National Weather Service puts precipitation odds at essentially zero, and the Weather Prediction Center puts flash flood risk below 5% through Saturday morning. The main story is heat: near 90°F in mid-May means the real-feel will run higher with Gulf humidity, so stay hydrated. Afternoon gusts up to 25 mph could shift things around on patios — anchor or stow that patio umbrella 10ft before heading out.
Weekend Events & Gameday Weather
Saturday and Sunday both look dry and warm — partly sunny with highs near 88°F and southeast winds 5 to 15 mph (gusts up to 25 mph). That sets up a great stretch for Daikin Park: the Houston Astros host the Texas Rangers on Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17. Both games are outdoors, and game-time conditions look comfortable. Grab a Houston Astros jersey or a Houston Astros fitted cap to rep the ‘Stros, and snag your seats — Get tickets on SeatGeek or Find tickets on StubHub.
Sunday also brings the Houston Dynamo FC vs. Vancouver Whitecaps at Shell Energy Stadium on May 17 — another pleasant evening for outdoor soccer.
On Saturday night, Bobby Lee brings The Finally Tour 2026 to 713 Music Hall on May 16. And Sunday, the Elmiene - Sounds for Someone Tour hits House of Blues Houston on May 17 — an intimate indoor show. Pick up an Elmiene t-shirt to complete the experience.
Fire Up the Grill Tonight
This is textbook backyard weather in Houston. Fire up the propane gas grill for burgers, steaks, or grilled chicken with corn on the cob. A solid instant-read meat thermometer takes all the guesswork out of doneness, and a grill brush and scraper set keeps the grates ready. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything for tonight’s dinner delivered to your door.
Next Few Days
Enjoy the dry stretch while it lasts. The National Weather Service forecasts a wetter pattern returning by the middle of next week, with multiple rounds of storms likely beginning Monday and picking up in earnest by Tuesday. Some areas could see weekly rainfall totals at or over 1 inch. Temperatures stay in the upper 80s to low 90s through the weekend before gradually easing as the rain arrives — classic late-May Houston.
