Detroit is waking up to a warm, mostly sunny Wednesday with a high near 85°F — but if you’ve got outdoor plans tonight, keep an eye on the sky after 5 PM ET when a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms moves in.
Today’s Setup
A backdoor cold front is slowly sagging through Michigan today, per the National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac office. During the day, it barely registers — skies stay mostly sunny, northeast winds hold at 3 to 7 mph, and temperatures top out near 85°F before easing back toward 82°F by mid-afternoon. The front is expected to stall across southern Michigan, and a mid-level wave arriving from the north could spark isolated showers and storms between roughly 5 and 10 PM ET. The NWS puts precipitation odds at only 20% — so it’s more likely to stay dry — but have a plan B if you’re out after dinner. Belle Isle, the Detroit Riverfront, and Midtown parks are all excellent through early afternoon.
Tigers at Comerica Park — Weather Check
The Detroit Tigers host the Los Angeles Angels tonight at Comerica Park, and first-pitch conditions look good: warm, sunny, light northeast breeze. The slight storm window after 5 PM ET is worth monitoring, but NWS forecasters expect any coverage to be isolated and scattered — not a washout. Represent in your Detroit Tigers jersey and Detroit Tigers fitted cap. Tomorrow’s rematch (Thursday, May 28) looks even cleaner: sunny and 73°F with zero rain in the forecast, making it one of the best baseball days of the month. Rain and Wind Risk
The main storm window is roughly 5–10 PM ET this evening. Any storms should be brief and isolated — this isn’t a widespread severe weather event, and the Storm Prediction Center has no active outlook for metro Detroit. That said, if you’re heading to the Kid Cudi REBEL RAGERS TOUR 2026 at Acrisure Amphitheater tonight, tuck a pair of rain boot shoe covers into your bag just in case. Overnight lows drop to a comfortable 56°F with partly cloudy skies.
What To Wear or Bring
Morning through mid-afternoon: sunscreen, sunglasses, light clothing. A Stanley quencher tumbler full of ice water keeps you going in the mid-80s heat. Toss a light layer in the car for the evening. Thursday (May 28) is the gem of the week — sunny and 73°F with NNE winds up to 13 mph and gusts to 21 mph. Ideal for mowing, a round of golf, or a long walk along the riverfront. If you’ve been eyeing the Callaway Big Bertha Fairway Wood deal, Thursday is your course day.
Comfort Food Tonight
With storms possible this evening, it’s a natural slow cooker night — load up a programmable slow cooker with chili or beef stew before you head out and come home to something warm. Prefer stovetop? An enameled cast iron Dutch oven turns out an excellent pot of soup in under an hour. Need ingredients? You can order groceries on Amazon and have everything delivered before dinner.
Next Few Days
Thursday (May 28): Sunny, 73°F — the best day of the week. Friday (May 29): Warming back near 83°F, still dry. The dry stretch holds through the weekend, which is great news for the Triumph: The Rock & Roll Machine Reloaded Tour at Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre at Freedom Hill on Saturday, May 30. No rain is currently expected through at least next weekend, per NWS Detroit. Follow the full Detroit weather forecast for any updates.
